I think my guests are illiterate

So my invitations went out last week. My mom gets a call from FMIL saying her sister nieces want to come to teh wedding but only if they could bring their 5-year old daughter - they apparently have no one to leave her with but i am left wondering where is the same girl's 9-year old son going to be
my invitation CLEARLY states 'ADULT RECEPTION' so why on earth woudl someone bring a child, one that neither me or FH know to my wedding
oh and to top it all off FMIL lied to my mom and said my FH didnt know about the situation when he really did and said no - she tried to trick my mom!

that stinks jen! I honestly don't understand how people have the balls to do things like that!

DON'T GIVE IN! At least not until they come up with an explanation of where they are leaving their son and why their daughter can't stay at the same place as him!

This is the saga of the RSVP.

People always think they can make an exception. Ummm...where are they leaving their other child???

Don't give in--be firm. If you give in, then you have to bend for others too.

Re: I think my guests are illiterate

this is JUST the beginning..stick to your guns girl. This happened to us. We actually had peopel CROSS OUT the invited number (2, 1 whatever) and IN PEN on our rsvp cards, write in the names of all the people they were coming with-6 were on an rsvp that should have been 1!!!

Oh and we had the people who asked if they could bring their kid but we think she's smart and all right for a kid so we said ok. What did we get from these people for a gift AFTER they had the BALLS to invite their kid to a grownups only affair where they KNEW its about 100 a plate? a 50 dollar picture frame...for 300 dollars worth of people....

People are just tacky. If I could go back, i'd have told them all sorry charlie and if they said 'well Im not coming,' id have said. 'OK! TOOOOTALLY respect your decision. NO problem!'

As for your situation - No kids means no kids...I'd just explain that to your FMIL

Re: I think my guests are illiterate

ughhhhhh i hate RSVPs.

a few of my friends from college assumed that when you wrote in number of persons attending, it meant you could bring whoever you wanted (instead of actually looking at the envelope where it is spelled out in plain English who is invited) I actually had a friend call her brother to see if he wanted to come, just because she thought hey, i may as well bring someone....ummmmm NO!!!!! i now have to go through the awkwardness of un-inviting someone's girlfriend who got 'added' to the RSVP card. i hate this stuff.

People are clueless, but i guess it's too much to ask that people understand etiquette. I am appalled that guests would invite extra people on their own.

I hear ya!! What are they thinking. Don't worry my family is not to far behind. You will love this....I have a cousin that I don't talk to. She got married this past May and she only invited my parents!!! (not myself or my adult siblings). She had the nerve to call my aunt and ask why she wasn't invited to my wedding. My aunt was telling her that she didn't invite anyone of us so you get what you deserve. The best part she was insisting that she did invite us which is BULL.

CRAZY
