I think there is something wrong w/ me - Registry FREAK out

Yesterday FH and I decided to start the registry process. We knew we werent going to get everything done but threre were a couple things we agreed on so we went for it.

We had a really nice guy help us at BBB - I guess I was his first bride but he took us around the store from section to section asking us what we needed and what we didn't want.

I almost had a panic attack in the store - I felt like I was running a marathon and couldn't think fast enough. Between him throwing out ideas and people interupting him asking him for help it was just nuts!!!!

Finally we got home and looked things over and I had an emotional break down. I saw how much certain things cost (especially items from the china we picked out) and just started to sob hysterically. I'm having a hard time justifying adding some of this stuff to a registry and basically telling my loved ones 'buy me this!' - I find the whole shower idea ridiculous and registering is just kind of rude!

I understand the point of it but the non-biatch in me just feels bad. I know its my day - I know people dont have to buy things off of it but I dont want people to look at it and think 'OMG she flipped her ish - who is she to ask for XXX'

Has anyone else had these thoughts? or am I just a freak of nature!

awwww i completely understand what you mean! I do find the registry thing very odd too, but people are used to it by now and they expect to just buy something off the registry. It makes gift-giving brainless which is good bc sometimes it gets stressful trying to think of 'the perfect gift' esp if its someone who doesn't know you well.

as far as the pricey items, I think they're good to have bc some people like to go in as a group and buy you something that just one person wouldn't. Also, when we went to crate & barrel, the woman who was helping us said some ppl even include furniture just bc of the 10% completion program. They aren't expecting ppl to buy them these things, but after the wedding, they will get 10% off, so think of the pricey things like that and hopefully it will get easier.

You don't HAVE to register. And even if you do, you don't have to register for expensive stuff. Why not register at Target and JC Penney instead of BBB and Macy's? They have great stuff and are very cheap. Though even at BBB, we took the expensive stuff off the registry. Our china costs $39.99 a place setting! You don't have to register for Vera Wang just because it's there!

I was the same way about mine

My mother was like put on what you want if people want to buy it they will if not they will give you gift cards and you will get it yourself

People before have asked for crazy stuff and people after us will ask for crazy stuff

The minute you get engaged people start talking about you so why should your registry not give them more ammo

First it is why did she pick that place, why did she pick that date, she is asking for what, why that china, she picked those flowers, those dresses are ugly

Should I go on?

It should no longer be called a wedding it should be called the MOST STRESSFUL TIME OF YOUR LIFE

Sorry about the rant .......you hit the nerve that just set off my bomb LOL

Don't worry-people expect you to register; and it makes it easier for them to buy things they know you actually want. I work part time at C&B and yes-people put things on their registry that 1) theyr'e not expecting people to buy so they can get the 10% registry completion and 2) so that if say two sisters want to combo their gift the can get a higher priced item.

Don't stress about it-registering is completely normal and should be fun!

sometimes when i see how much stuff costs, i think twice about adding it on the registry because it is expensive and people do have to shell out the cash for it.

however, a word to the wise. alot of girls make the mistake of not registering for enough items. you leave yourself open at this point to getting whatever they will bring you and they might not give you a receipt for you to exchange it.

even if no one will ever buy it for you, make it a wish list item! add it on your registry. its fun and you might not get it, but then again - maybe a few people will get together and get you a high ticket item.

just enjoy! and if going to the store is too much for you - you can always add stuff to your registry online. or go when its a slower time of day and you don't need a salesperson's help. just ask for the scan gun and off you go!

Thanks ladies - i appreciate the vote of confidence. You all made good points that I just have to remind myself through all of this.

Specifically I had a freak out moment when i saw how much the sugar bowl is that matches my china set - yea, i had an emotional freak out over a sugar bowl. Poor, poor FH lol

but like most of you said - it's a guide to help people and if i dont get things i can always get them later. People are going to complain and have their say about things no matter what so i just gotta roll with it.

I wantes this to be fun - I am hoping take 2 will be a lot better!!!

I agree with everyone.. don't freak out. it's okay!! if people dont want to spend $$ on certain things they wont... and then you can jsut buy it yourself if you really want it :) dont stress!!!

You are fine, don't worry. If people think something is too expensive then they just wont buy it. Remember , this is pretty much the only thing having to do with the wedding that doesnt cost you money...so enjoy it!!!

Re: I think there is something wrong w/ me - Registry FREAK out

I was just busting chops on FB. That does sound like a chaotic, miserable experience. and I hear you about the idea of a registry, I do't like the idea of telli ng people what to buy me, I have enough trouble at Christmas and my bday! But since it makes LOGICAL sense and will help me out in he long run, I've tried to get over that.

You have a LOT of planning going on simultaneously, so I don't blame you for being overwhelmed. DOn't worry

Now that you've seen stuff in person you can always modify from the comfort of your own computer without all the chaos... just don't do that with sheets or towels, you should always be there to see and feel them in person first.
