Father Bob, from the catholic answer- he is really nice - we drove all the way to hamptons bays for like a 10 minute meeting- but that's not the odd part
he drives a BMW 740- not brand new- but I though it was was strange choice for a man of G-d to drive- espeically since cathloic priest are suppose to take a vow of poverty!

Re: I though this was odd...
Could it be it was donated to the church? I know my rabbi once had a NICE car and I know his family personally and knew they couldn't afford it. It was actually a donation to the temple/rabbi

I think that is really wierd. I would even ask him about it. Could be that the car was donated to his parish

Re: I though this was odd...
This guy is not affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church.
He has broken his vows with the church-this would include any vows of poverty he might have previously taken.
Please do not think that this man is the same thing as a real RC priest, he is not.

No, it's not. Your fee to the church is for upkeep, cleaning, to keep the lights on, keep the heat or A/C on, pays for the sacristy and possibly any music/organist you may have.

Re: I though this was odd...
Just an FYI:
Some Rabbis do very well depending on the wealth of the congregation they serve - especially in some pockets of Long Island. I grew up in a very wealthy congregation myself. Rabbis do not take vows of poverty I assure you and they are also salaried employees. Temple memberships are THOUSANDS of dollars per year for a family - I know 'pay to pray' but people do it. My family did.
Many are not only Rabbis but other professions as well. I know of a few off the top of my head. My cousin is both attorney by trade as well as a Rabbi and so was the Rabbi I grew up with. And we did not donate cars for him to drive. He didnt need our money

Well the church that I grew up attending- a 'real' Roman Catholic Church, had a better entertainment system in their living room than my parents did (who were not hurting in the pocketbook) so believe me I have seen it all.

catholic priests don't take a vow of poverty
i have known a few that drive sports cars, drink super expensive scothes
they are paid a stipend becausee there housing is paid for - but the stipend depnds on the wealth of the parish i believe

Re: I though this was odd...
a lot of times - the wealthier the parish the more lavish the donations. i am sure parishoners (like myself and my family) make donations based upon what we can afford and because we like our church to look a particular way. i take pride on having such a beautiful parish - and it is beautiful because of donations. a church is run like a business based on donations from their parishoners and is a reflection of the community.
if you don't agree - don't donate - FREE WILL -one of the perks of being R.C.

Let me not get started on this...you should see what Greek Orthodox priests drive...you would think they own a Benz dealership When I found out what they make I was shocked!
