I though this was odd...

Original post by Beth1210

I finally meet with the Priest this weekend

Father Bob, from the catholic answer- he is really nice - we drove all the way to hamptons bays for like a 10 minute meeting- but that's not the odd part

he drives a BMW 740- not brand new- but I though it was was strange choice for a man of G-d to drive- espeically since cathloic priest are suppose to take a vow of poverty!

Maybe he has a family member who gave it to him. I have family in the religious life and everyone in our extended family is very generous with them.

You also have to figure that although a RC priest lives on a salary that isn't so much, the only person he supports is himself. no wife, no kids, etc.

Maybe he invested, who knows?

does it really matter all that much?

Yeah, I'm thinking it was either a donation or maybe it belongs to the parish. It could also be leased and that's what he spends his money on.

maybe I am wrong to think it's odd, but the priests at my childhood parish drove a beat up old station wagon

I think of priests as being above material pocesions and not wanting them or caring about them

This guy is not affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church.

He has broken his vows with the church-this would include any vows of poverty he might have previously taken.

Please do not think that this man is the same thing as a real RC priest, he is not.

.

Priets don't take vows of poverty, nuns and brothers do, but not priests. I had an uncle who was a christian brother and I asked him one day when I saw my priest driving a nice saab convertable. Also, it could have been a gift from a relative - as was the saab.

I was going to say the same thing.... priests dont! but nuns do! Which in my opinion is not right... but its the way it is

Personally, I do not think is weird. My pastor is a professional as well as a pastor. He is an engineer and so I know any nice material things he owns is as a result of his professional earnings.

Maybe he has another job??
