Hey girls quick question. I had my final appointment and met with Maureen (Natasha is away on vacation unfortunately) While discussing the Maitre D tip, she wrote down 900.00-1200.00 is recommended. Im having 140 guests... I thought the standard was 3-5pp? Im pretty sure Natasha told me that too. Even at the max 5pp, that's still only 700.00....was anyone else quoted this, or plan on tipping this much? I'm all about giving gratuity, but 900-1200 seems pretty steep to me..am I being cheap? Eek.

They normally say 3 to 5pp but either way I would give them whatever you think they deserve unless it specifies what you have to give in your contract. A tip is just that a tip and should be given based on service and not a guarante

Wow that's a lot! We're having our wedding at Westbury Manor too and I was only planning on giving $400-500 max. I say give whatever you think is the right amount.

3-5 is appropriate. I was a Maitre D' at one point and if someone feel in the 3-5 guideline it was much appreciated, but unless it is in your contract tip what you feel is deserved. Money is tight at the time of most peoples weddings and in my experience most people give around 2.50-3 per person... Just whatever you give, give it with a heartfelt thank you

My DOC said 150.00-200.00 and Im having 130 people. That figure is outrageous! Im all for giving tips but I think 150.00-200.00 is good. Im not going overboard. With all the people we have to tip we are over 1000.00....its crazy!

I have two maitre d's. Should I be giving them both $3-5 pp? Is it wrong to split it between them?

No way that number is okay!! I am definitely going off how may wedding goes but as a guidleine I do think that 3-5pp is a good baseline. You are not being cheap you are being reasonable!!!

That seems like way too much.
I have 2 Maitre D's and I was only planning on tipping them $100 each. I believe I already had to make an additional payment to the hall of $600 for the 2 Maitre D's and the bridal attendant so they are already being taken care of as it is.

You should give them whatever u feel they deserve! I would use that as a guide but see how they work! Enjoy your day!

Re: I thought it was 3-5pp?
I feel it depends on what they do. We did not have a coordinator and relied on our maitre'd to set up a LOT of the DIY stuff we had made (room dividers, seating charts, children's activities, candy buffet, photobooths, etc.). We tipped between $5 and $6 per person but he earned every penny. We looked at it as if we had paid him the money we would have paid a coordinator. So I agree, give what you feel they've earned. I think $700 is a VERY nice tip for a maitre'd and I can't imagine they would scoff at that.

I don't think so. I mean, the work is split between them, why not the pay?

I was married at the Fox Hollow which is the sister to Westbury Manor and my Maitre'd I believe suggested a tip of about $600-$700. We had about 120 guests so it was in the $5-$6 pp range. I personally think $1200 is quite high. Give what you feel comfortable with.

Re: I thought it was 3-5pp?
Ok great thank you ladies!!! This makes me feel a lot better. I was so worried I was being cheap... we are already giving generous tips to all our vendors and factoring in another 1000.00 is just not in the budget. Im not sure where this girl got that number?? But she actually wrote it down! As far as having 2 maitre d's, in my opinion I would say they should split it. They are splitting the work so why not split the tip. just my opinion! hth!
3 days 1 hour and 42 seconds ahhhh!!!!

Is it just me or does it seem wrong that someone is telling you how much you should tip them. Imagine if a waiter at a restaurant told you how much they wanted you to tip them. My best advice is to give what you feel they deserve, I think I tipped some vendors way to much. A tip should be based on service, so give what you think they deserve AND what you can afford!

I was doing between $3 and $5. Honestly it totally depends on how the wedding goes. If we don't feel as though they are doing a good job, then we will go with the low end. I've heard people take money out of envelopes and rearrange their tips during the wedding!

Re: I thought it was 3-5pp?
I think its complete BULL that RHs even SUGGEST what you should tip.
My RH actually wouldnt give us a number when we asked, they said to give whatever we were comfortable with.
i had about 120 people, and we gave her $350. She was very good but I also had a DOC.
