I thought passports were taking LONGER to come back!

I thought passports were taking LONGER to come back!

I lost my passport shortly after I returned home from China.

I went to the post office near my office in NYC on 4/20 to apply for my passport. I paid to have it expedited, knowing that there are apparently really long delays in getting it back -- I need it for my honeymoon AND I need my birth certificate back so I can apply for my marriage license.

They told me to expect it mid-May

It just came now!

7 days, 2 of which were weekend days? Not bad! Now THAT was worth the $200.

PS - All this means is that I will go home and find the old one tonight... and I will have gotten a brand new passport for exactly 1 trip, since I'll be changing my name after I'm married.

wow, good for you. I actually applied the end of January and just received mine last week. I did not pay for faster service, but I was told I would get it by mid-march. I actually started to get nervous.

That's why I expedited and was still worried it would take a long time!

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I was replacing a lost passport?? No idea.

Nope if you had it expedited then you get it that quick, my mom took 2 days to get hers...I always go to the passport agency in the city to get it the same day

The good thing is that if you change your name and get a new passport in the next year, the new passport will be free since you just got a new passport!

Yes, but the current time wait for expedited passports ordered through the post office is 3-4 weeks... so it did come a lot earlier than they anticipated.

The last time I got my passport, I got it same day. However, you now need to be traveling within 14 days to get the same day passport, which I am not. Plus, it's more than it cost to expedite it through the post office.

Yeah my mom went to some agency dont even know which one, but not the passport agency in the city. It was like $300 but she had a family emergency and needed it quick and couldnt even wait the for the 2 week appointment.

Yeah each time i got my passport i went to the agency...The last time i went you had to do the whole 2 week thing but it worked out fine...Just pointing it out for anybody who doesnt receive it in time or something comes up last minute and you need it sooner

There is a passport office in the city where you can get your passport the same day? Where is this?!?!

It's extremely expensive and you have to be traveling within 14 days. I'd never depend on this to get your passport, but it's good for what it's intended for -- needing to get a passport in an emergency.

Espo can tell you where it is... I went once years ago, but I'm not sure where it was (or if it's still even in the same place)!

it used to be on 57th and madison but now its downtown, close by where cityhall is, last time i went was about 4 years ago so cant remember the exact location. And then i paid $95 dont know if it went up or not. It was great bc before you didnt have to make an appointment, but you would have to get there early and wait on line.

I got it both times bc i realized my passport expired after i bought tickets...I dont know for me personally i didnt mind and wasn't a problem at all.

AND WHEN my passport will expire a few years from now i plan on also going to the passport agency...This past summer FH and i went on vacation, well he put in for his passport 2 months ahead of time, he and his brother at the same time. Well his brother received it about 6 weeks later and FH still hadn't gotten it and we were cutting it close, his mom had to call up and then write a letter in order for them to send the passport, i think we even asked for them to overnight it or something.

Good to know!! I have been putting off my passport far too long. My fiance is getting so mad! He has two passports since he has duel citizenship between here and Holland so he's been all set. This is the only thing I've slacked on!

As long as you send you name change info I think within a year of being married you don't have to pay to have your name changed on the passport!!!

Re: I thought passports were taking LONGER to come back!

just to add myself to the still waiting...
applied 2-15, check cleared 3-12 and today is 10 weeks (which is what their web says the processing should take) still no passports.
Called up and the rep said wait another 2 weeks and see . . should be any day now. . .
And if you pay attention to the recording (which I of course ignored) they don't even want to talk to you unless you need the thing in the next 14 days.
Hey you have my money I want to know now.
