I took my cat...

from my parents house and he moved in with DH and I on Saturday. He has been acting so strange! I guess he is trying to get used to his new house, but I feel so bad for him. I took him from their house where there are 2 other cats. I don't want him to be lonley! Any advice on how to make him feel comfortable???

No words of wisdom except make sure the cat is somewhat surrounded with things he is familiar with from your parents & make sure you spend time with him

My poor cat has moved with me sooo many times in his life - lets see - he is about 12 yrs old, and has moved at least 10 times, that he is so unphased when we move to a new place.... He'll step out of the cat carrier, walk around the new place, and then find the couch, curl up and go to sleep! That makes me feel even sadder, how used to it he has become!!!

the 1st time we ever moved, about 10 yrs ago, he was freaked - he curled up in the shower, for some reason!

Well, this morning he woke me up at 4:45AM to be fed...that is what time my mom fed him when he lived with them. And, he cried from 4:45 till about 5:30. I fed him and he still cried. I feel sad for him because I don't want him to be lonely. I guess I need some re-assurance that he'll be okay.

Re: I took my cat...

We just recently moved. After we gave our old landlords notice we sent one our cats to live with my mom, and the other two went to my sisters house. Just because we were trying to clean up everything and paint and stuff and we didn't want the cats messing stuff up.
When we moved into our new place we picked up the cat from my mom's 1st and let her have a few nights alone adjusting to the new place before we brought the two younger ones in.
It took them probably about a week or so to get used to the new place. Just give it time...he'll probably just take a little time to adjust but he'll be fine.

when dh brought his cat to live with us, he was scared for a bit.

give him some time to figure out where things are. he'll be ok. you might want to consider getting a kitten. we did, and it's given the old guy some spunk.

He'll need some time to adjust, and then he'll never even remember he lived anywhere else!

Re: I took my cat...

I've moved my little one 3 times. It has taken her about a month each time to get used to the new place. The first time we moved her I was so worried b/c she was acting so different but the vet told me this was normal.
Just give your kitty sometime to get used to the place.

Awww I feel so bad that you moved him from the other cats...Im sorry its just that I wouldnt be able to do that to an animal...he is definitely missing the other ones...I would have gotten another cat altogether.

I moved my cat away from my mother's 2 cats. She got used to being alone in about a week or two. I felt so guilty when I moved her like I was ripping her from her little cat family, but I think she is happier since she gets all the attention now.
