I want to change my hall...

I want to change my hall...

When I choose my hall it was based on the fact that my fh and I would be footing the bill, But then, when I told my dad I picked a place, he said he wanted to come and see it. When we got there he left the $2,000 non-refundable deposit for me. A week later, he and my step-mom told us that they were going to pay for basically the whole wedding (minus a few minor things). Well, I went to Atlantica over the weekend, and I fell in love with it, and someone told me my hall looks cheap, witch it's not in my opinion, over $100 a plate. BUT I can't even ask my dad, right? That looks greedy... And he would be out $2,000.... I can't ask, right?

Re: I want to change my hall...

what dont you like about eh hall you chose? I think it would be really hard to have your dad loose out on the 2000 unless there was a REALLY good reason you didnt like it IMO
GIve us some more info so we can help better, if it is minor things we can come up with suggestions

i'd leave it where you have it booked. if your dad wasn't paying - would you even consider it?? what does your FI think?

what hall did you book?

Re: I want to change my hall...

Okay, I choose Beach Club Estate BECAUSE:

1) FH was sick of looking around

2) a lot of people at other places were snotty to me

3) On the water

4) Only one bride at a time

5) They gave me an extra hour pre-reception for pics

but I want to change it because:

1) I like Atlantica better

2) the dance floor might be a little to small

3) Someone told me they went to a wedding there and it looked really cheap....

Not good reasons.... right?

FH husband like BCE because it's different. But he really doesn'tt care I don't think and NO, if I were paying for this wedding, I would not change it, in fact I told FH it would be no more the $10,000, and if we were paying for this $25,000+ wedding he would kill me!

First before you do anything, find out if the Atlantica is available for your date. I looked at it in Jan. and my Sept. 06 date was booked. Actually all of Sept. 06 was booked!

Second, you need to speak to your parents. Atlantica is ALOT more expensive than $100pp. I was quoted $254pp for a Saturday night in the fall of 06. Find out if your parents want to spend that much since they will be the ones footing the bill.

If all works out, call your current hall and get your deposit back. I think by law they have to, but you may want to double check that.

IT sounds to me like you were happy with your hall until someone told you it looked 'cheap'
I think it was extremely rude for this person to say this to you, and as we all have learned, don't listen to other people's opinions.
It makes me so mad to hear that people say such stupid things!!!
Obviously, you loved it when you booked it. I have heard many wonderful things about Beach Club Estate. I wouldn't worry.

Yes, i think what is bothering me is the cheap comment, I think you nailed in on the head.... I guess I shouldn't worry about what other people think maybe I should be more like fh who's philosophy is 'I don't care if people think it is cheap, I don't care if people come (besides the immediate fam), I don't care if people like the food, all I care about is that we're married and your happy!'

Re: I want to change my hall...

Depends on who the person that said it was cheap. I mean I had a ton of people look at me funny when I said where I was getting married...b/c my parents said back in the day like 10 yrs back or so CLM wasnt so good...
Now it is amazing with all the work they have been doing and stuff...Go with what you like if you like the beachclub then stay but atlantica is a HUGE price jump! I mean if he (your pops) will flip the bill then y not...but i do agree with an above post I though suffolk has to give back you deposit?!??!

Well whatever you decide it will be great but dont base it off of one persons opinion!

Everyone is going to have an opinion some good some bad....But dont ALWAYS go by the bad ones!

Re: I want to change my hall...

i fmmed you
i had a few suggestions

maybe if your parents are willing to foot the atlantica bill you could pay the 2000.00 (if they dont give it back to you which i think they have to)

hope all works out

Its definitely the 'cheap' comment. Your hall actually sounds very nice from how you described it - you both picked it for a reason and you decided together - don't let someone else upset the dream you started with.

Very well said (both quotes) and I totally agree! Don't let anyone else's opinions steer you - if you do this now, you'll be catering to everyone else except you and your FI through the whole planning process! Let the hall prove them wrong, I'm sure they'll be eating their words after your beautiful day!

I would keep it!!!
Just go with what you have, maybe you'll make moe money in the end. I hate t sound harsh.
YOu sound like you rushed to book, when you really didn't have to. It's done. 2,000 is alot of moeny and the only reason your questioning it is b/c it's not your money it's your Dad's. If it were your 2,000, it wouldn't even be a question. Don't throw his money out the window. Just keep the hall and make the best of it.
No one should judge what hall you picked. After all your guest are your frieds and family.

Re: I want to change my hall...

Keep in mind, you and FH picked your hall for a reason... If you both liked it then, then what happened? Someone said it looked cheap? People say stupid things and if there is one thing I think any bride can agree on here, it's that people give you their opinions even if you don't want them!

Your hall will look beautiful...don't worry.

And maybe the reason your dad chose to foot the bill is because he knew he would be able to afford it. I think asking him to pay for Atlantica, which there is a huge jump in price, should be completely out of the question. If anything, if you still really love Atlantica, then you could pay the difference between BCE and Atlantica to your dad and the additional $2,000 he would lose out on... JMO

Yes, you ladies are right. thats why i love this sight. all the ladies are so helpful and great at putting things in prospective. Also, it's great to talk w/ people who actually WANT to constantly disscuss wedding stuff!

Re: I want to change my hall...

I think you should do what you really want, once you decide what that is. I'm booked at Atlantica, but I'm doing a Friday in April which is technically considered off season and is more reasonable than their usual fee. September is their most expensive month and it would cost a fortune. I love Atlantica but even I have had second thoughts about it-I think everyone does at one point or another. Your place (where ever you decide) will be great.

don't listen to people that tell you your hall looks cheap...that is not a valid reason to change your hall. think it over, don't go rushing into it b/c you find out that someone else is paying; it doesn't mean that you should upgrade eerything. think it over...
