On a freaking wedding dress....sooooo bad but I feel like its way to soon to try on or order one I mean people are like sneering that we are waiting till 2012 to get married! So I feel like the women at the bridal store won't take me seriously!!!! I guess I have my own hang ups!!

Re: i want to try..
I tried on a few dresses with my sister (shes getting married Aug 2011) and it was sooo weird... and not in a good way. I guess I felt like it wasnt my time to start trying on dresses yet? Idk it was weird....but I think Im going to start trying on dresses in September So at least I will almost be at the 1 and a half mark....
If you feel like trying on dresses do it! But i have read some posts on LIW that girls have done it way too early and a year later they hate what they picked out, im nervous of that!

Re: i want to try..
My mom came out to visit from Oregon earlier this month so I made it a point to go try on dresses with her and my MOH. Since she lives on the other side of the country I thought it would be nice to have her there for my first time trying on dresses. We went to the Pronovias store in NYC and then high tea at the Russian Tea Room. It was such a nice day! Dress shopping is on hold for me now until I book a venue. Have two appointments to look at RH's on Sunday, though so hopefully that won't be too long. lol

Re: i want to try..
I looked at dresses a couple weeks ago & they definately laughed at me in the bridal store.... but I found a style I liked for now. Who knows what next year will bring! You are free to do whatever you want!!!

Welcome to the boards! Which RHs are you looking at?
Thanks! I went to look at Coindre Hall last week and have appointments for Smithtown Landing Country Club and The Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling on Sunday and Crestwood Manor next Sunday. I really want to book the hall and have a set date ASAP! I feel like once that's done everything else is just details. lol
Any reviews or advice on any of the halls I'm looking at would be awesome, too!

UGHHHH so annoying!!!! Who cares what they think!!!
If you want to try a dress on, GO FOR IT!
I haven't gone yet because I just don't feel ready yet.... I want to lose a little more weight, originally I was going to go this summer but have been preoccupied planning our engagement party. But if I felt ready to go shopping for a dress I would totally go!!!!

Haha, I know the feeling! We just booked the RH yesterday, 7 months after getting engaged. What are you looking for in a place? What sort of budget? I'm sure we all have suggestions :)
We saw Smithtown Landing -- Rich is amazing, and his prices were really great. It was somewhat smaller and less formal than what we wanted, but I highly recommend it!
I definitely want to have the ceremony on site and I want it to be an outdoor, garden ceremony. (I'd love to have an outdoor tented reception, but couldn't do that in good conscience to my guests in the middle of July!)
Aside from that I just want a venue that doesn't feel like a generic reception hall. If it can't be outdoors (or at least feel outdoorsy) I'd like it to at least have interesting architecture. I'm going for a vintage/art deco feel. As for budget, I'd like to keep it around $100 per person.

Did you pick the July date for a reason? Otherwise you could change the month and have a tented reception :) Also, keep in mind that Saturday evening is the most expensive time. If you're willing to go for different days/times, you'll find that prices drop significantly.
Places we saw with nice outdoor areas: Riviera (Massapequa), Giorgio's (Baiting Hollow), Thatched Cottage (Centerport), Swan Club (Roslyn). Those were all under $100 before tax and tip -- some are over when you factor that in -- for a Sunday afternoon in May.
And, btw, just be careful referring to 'generic reception hall' on the boards. Girls on here are getting married at pretty much any place you could name!
I picked July because FH is a teacher and has July and August off so we want to do it while he's not working and July just works better for both families involved. Also, both our birthdays are in the winter around the holidays so I wanted to spread our anniversary out so all our important dates aren't piled on top of each other.
I haven't heard of Riviera or Giorgio's. I'll check them out, thanks! I've heard of the Swan Club, but heard that they do more than one wedding at a time. I'm looking for a place that only does one per day.
I totally didn't mean to imply that there's anything wrong with reception halls or to make anyone feel bad about their venue!! Bad choice of words on my part, sorry! I just meant I, personally, want a more funky venue. That's all.

You just want something different and out of the ordinary from your typical RH, nothing wrong with that. I want both, so I'm the one with the problem.. Seriously, I want the outdoorsy, on the water thing, but I want that 'elegant indoorsy' feel too. That's why I need a place where I can be outside and inside for the entire 5 hours.
