i was in a car accident yesterday!

it was technically my fault... I was getting off the Southern State and the lady ahead of me. We come to the part of the ramp where we get onto Newbridge Rd. and she starts to go.. So I start to go, making sure there arent any cars.

Wll all of the sudden she decides to stop. there werent any cars coming, why did she do that? I dont see it in time and I hit her. YOu would think I hit her at 50 miles an hour! The back window shattered and her back part of the car was crunched. Wow the power of an SUV! I have a Pathfinder. SO I pull over an dIm shaking. I get out to make sure that she is ok. It was her and 3 older women. They hardly spoke English. I told them I was calling the cops. I called the cops and then she gets out of the car to ask to use my phone.

she uses my phone to make a few calls and was fine. until the cops came. then all of the sudden her neck hurt. so she was carried away in an ambulance! DRAMA!

now i dont mean to sound crude, but she was fine when I lent her my phone. She was even bending down to hear b/c we were right off the Parkway. then she got back in her car and put her seat belt back on. I couldnt believe it!

Anyway, my car is somewhat ok. I have minor damage to the bumper but other than that its ok.

great way to start a Monday!!!!

I'm sorry this happened!!

The same thing happened to me. I was in a 5 car accident on the Cross Island. A car stopped short, then 2 other cars then I did. There was a 1/2 inch if that between me & the car infront of me. But, of course the woman behind me WHAMMO!!! MY car careened across the 3 lanes to get hit again & thrown back to the right lane. The woman in front of me said 'why didn't you stop?' to me! I said I did 'She hit me' She was on her cell phone making a big uproar & as soon as the cops came she needed an ambulance. The cop looked at my car & then looked at hers. His face said it all!! He knew she was a liar!! It kills me what people think they can get away with.

do you have any witnesses? I would definitely put in your report her actions of using your phone and her getting back in the car

Thats true! My family is in insurance and I hear stories like this all the time!

Sounds like a scam to me. I bet she did it on purpose. Were there any other witnesses? I would tell the cops and your insurance co. all of this. I think NY Ins law now says accidents are 'no fault' so that is something in your favor, but I would totally try to fight this because from waht you said it sounds like she is pulling a scam on you!

I'm just glad that you are OK I know it sounds like a cliche, but the car and everything else is replaceable.. as long as you walked away unscathed, that's all that truly matters

ETA: I hate to say it, but as the other girls replied it sounds like a TOTAL SCAM to me .. UGH, people really suck out there

I hear about this all the time unfortunately. However, if they file a lawsuit, your insurance company will represent you and no doubt they will be all to familiar with this sort of thing too.... so don't worry about it.

Glad you're ok and no one was fatally injured THAT is the most important thing.

As far as the lady goes.. from my own personal experience you feel FINE after the accident it's when the shock starts to wear off that things get nasty. I got clipped and spun three times, hit my head on the window (which I didnt realize until the day later). I felt A-OK. A little shaky but no pain, until later. Then it hurt like a son of a gun.

Not to say she's not scamming you, but in this day and age of 'SUE, SUE, SUE and FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD' it's so easy to just assume everyone's lying. If you were in an SUV and she wasn't it doenst take a whole lot to cause injury. As long as the doctors are honest it shouldnt be a big deal. Older women though do get hurt easier.

Personally, Im just glad you're ok and basically so are they. Those types of accidents can get nasty or cause pile ups. That type of accident is also VERY VERY common.

Don't beat yourself up over it, that's why they call them 'Accidents'

i feel better now, i just had to vent. the thng that bothered me was that she got out of the car and asked me to use the phone. She was fine. As soon as she got back inthe car, she pput onher seatbelt and said her neck hurt. I am from a family of cops and my dad said this happens all the time. anyway, cars are replaceable and I wasnt hurt. I truly hope she is ok.

You really have to look at it like that. I am sorry this happened to you. I had something like that happen to me a long time ago, the guy was crawling around under his BMW trying to figure out what lines were leaking right after I hit him. Two months later I get a $2 million dollar lawsuit, thankfully it settled for about $10,000. All this, though, for a guy who was worried about fluid lines and where they were coming from. That's why you have insurance is all.

Happy to hear you are OK. Make sure you tell your insurance company about the woman from the other car so they can look into it. And keep your cell phone bill so the insurance company can see who she called when she used your phone. Make sure you get a copy of the police report. Can you tell I do this for a living?

wow..Thank God you are ok!!!! Its too bad you happened to hit a drama queen, but when she goes to the hospital, hopefully they'll be able to prove there is nothing wrong with her! Can you keep those calls on yoru cell as proof of anything. If she was in such pain, would she have been able to use yoru phone? Im glad YOU are ok and thats why you have insurnace..for as$holes like the lady you hit!
