I was in labor and delivery last night for 8 hours

Thank God I wasnt in labor. I woke up at 11 in extreme pain, I felt like someone had stuck a knife in my back and was twisting it, after 15 minutes of this I woke DH and told him to please take me to the hospital.

When I got to the hospital they gave me a gown and a cup to pee in, I was still in agony, they strapped the heart monitor and the contraction monitor on me and started an IV. I had a sonogram and baby was fine, no contractions, appparently I was dehydrated and this was stirring up the sand that is usually in your kidneys. I got 2.5 bags of saline to re-hydrate me, a bag of antibiotics and finally a pain killer.

We had to wait 4 hours for someone to do a renal sonogram on my kidneys and then it took 2 hours + for them to read it. By that time my own dr had come in and started the ball rolling. Happy to say no kidney stones, and my baby is 100% fine. I am on antibiotics for 7 days now and have to drink 1 gallon of water every day.

Thanks everyone....I have been drinking bottles and bottles of water and feeling a whole lot better

wow, what a scary situation...I'm so happy to hear that everything is good and ok! You and that little baby are troupers!

I'm so glad to hear that you are alright. What an awful experience.

Had you been sick? Did they indicate how you got so dehydrated? (Forgive the questions, but I'm at just about 21 weeks and wanted to know if this is something I should be concerned about as well!)

No I've been feeling fine. It was a sudden thing. Usually at work I buy the huge bottle of water and drink that throughout the day but the last few days at work have been so hectic I didnt have time to run to the store so I would get like one regular bottle of water and sip it, all of the nutrients go to the baby but I was neglecting myself. My kidneys were working overtime with basically nothing to do, so all the sand (the best word my dr used to describe it) traveled through my system causing this infection. Just keep drinking a lot, doesnt have to be only water, anything to keep you hydrated. I should add that I have had problems with my right kidney (the same one this time) before. I had a UTI that spread to my bladder then kidneys and then through my blood, they called it poly-nephritis.
