Earlier today, someone went under my desk where my purse hides and stole it! I am a receptionist, and my desk is at the front, but even with a security guard at the door, some jerk got in, posing as a delivery guy. He waited until I went to the bathroom to go through my stuff!
I went to the local precinct, cried, and filed a report. The thing I was most upset about losing: MY WEDDING CALENDAR!! So much wedding stuff, phone numbers, appointments in there.
The Good News? I got back to the building and they found the purse in the staircase, only missing the cash. EVERYTHING else was there!
Friendly reminder: Even in your place of business, people find a way to steal from you.

That is sooo awful What a jerk.
The sad part is a lot of theft takes place in office buildings since people can pretty much roam the floors alone. Even if a card key is needed to access certain floors, there are usually internal stairs for the thieves to use.
And lets not forget about the celptos who work for your company. Friends have had CD players, laptops & cash stolen. One woman even had a small baby blue elephant bank stolen from her office - a bank that she put moneyin for her child. Only someone who worked closely with her would have even known it was there since it was kind of hidden.
We used to have e-mails a few times a month sent by people asking for their 'borrowed' items to be returned i.e., 'whomever borrowed my laptop from my office, please bring it back ASAP.'
It's horrible this happened to you but I'm so glad you got your planner back
office theft is why the most valuable items left on my desk are photos. It's sad... but you really can't trust anyone.

OMG I'm soo sorry. I know how hard this is. Just a few months ago this happened to my sister, the same situation. Someone must have been planning to take her bag. Although her bag was never found, her credit cards were used, she did end up getting her license back in the mail. I feel for you. I'm glad you got your things back. Start locking everything now.

Re: I was just a victim of theft!
what a pain. I had a similar thing happen to me at my last job. Someone stole my wallet out of my bag in my desk. Company security didn't believe me that it was stolen at work becuase I only noticed it when I went shopping after work. They found my wallet four years later, placed up in the ceiling tiles of another part of the building. Everything was there except the cash.
you may want to report your credit cards as stolen anyway -- even though he didn't take the cards, there's no way to know that he didn't jot down the numbers and your address.

How terrible!!! I'm glad that they found you purse though. I had my wallet stolen in school by a classmate once and he threw my wallet in the gutter. I was like, 'he could've taken the money, but it would've been nice if he had left me everything else!'

It was like a little time capsule of 1998. The people at my old job were amazed.

Re: I was just a victim of theft!
And just in case you have you social security card in your wallet (or on your ID) put a fraud alert on your credit report.
My former assistant had some computers charged on her credit cards and her wallet was never even stolen.
Someone wrote her numbers down while she was shopping (a cashier I suppose) and they opened up a few store accounts. They then ordered a few computers and were dumb enough to have them delivered to their own home - where the police caught up with them. I'm just glad they were dumb enough to get caught but she went through a lot to get her credit back in order.

Re: I was just a victim of theft!
That's horrible!! Aside from the missing money, I'm glad to hear you got eveything else back...especially your wedding planner!
I work in a office where some guy came in off the street, went into my boss's office, disconnected his lap top computer and walked out with it. He even had the nerve to walk around my office and ask an Exec for a pen to make it look like he was supposed to be there! Needless to say, we are all on guard now all the time at my job. It's sad really that you can't even feel safe at work.
