I went to a wedding this weekend

I went to a wedding this weekend

FH and I travelled up to Corning for our friends' wedding. It was beautiful. But the constant clanging on the glasses to make them kiss - I hated it. I have always disliked that tradition, but now that I am 362 days away from my day I was wondering if there is a polite way to prevent this. Any thoughts or suggestions? FH literally wants to make an annoncent I think that might be a little much. Has anyone ever heard of a polite, successful way of avoiding this?

Some people use bells on their table, one per table, instead. When people have to reach for the bell, they are less likely to do it over and over again.
I have a feeling there is no real polite way to ask people, 'Please do not make us kiss'.

Ive seen alteranative requests printed on the menus or programs. For example, when someone clings a glass, that person must sing a few bars of their favorite love song before the bride and groom will kiss. This pretty much eliminates it altogether since nobody wants to do this.

Unfortunatley that wouldn't work for us. The Irish LOVE a sing-song!! Especially after a few drinks!!

I went to a wedding a few weekends ago, where they used the bells. I strongly recommend against them. I think they are worse than the glasses. I was ready to go around and collect them all from the tables they were making me crazy!
