I went to a wedding yesterday ....

My building is three blocks from the towers and I saw a lot of what happened and am extremely distraught. But my FH and I felt that we needed to go to a friend's wedding yesterday evening for her sake as well as our own. The reception was at the Water's Edge and although the main view was midtown Manhattan, we could still see (off on the left side) the smoke escalating from lower Manhattan.
We managed to put our feelings of sorrow aside for a few hours and celebrate (instead) on the uniting of life of two people who love each other. The rest of the invited guests celebrated this occassion as well.
My recommendation to all of you that have weddings either this weekend or the next is to go on with your day. It will be ok, we are strong. We need normalcy and to try to continue with our scheduled lives. My FH told me after the wedding, that he is glad that I went, and that I was not sitting home glued to the TV for yet another day. I have to say, that I'm glad I went to, I needed to go out and be a part of LIFE again.
I have to say though, that I do wish that the couple yesterday made an announcement both in Church and at the reception for a prayer or a reflective moment ... which they did not. And my FH and I were the only ones wearing red, white, and blue ribbons. We each grieve in our own way.
Be happy to be getting married, you can still mourn for the ones that have been lost, but on your day, concentrate on the new life you are creating.
I wish you all lots of love, and blessings at this time and always. At a time like this, it makes you appreciate each moment of every day. Although I did not know anyone directly, I do have business acquaintances that I am sure have passed on.
God Bless!
