There has been a commercial on TV lately that uses the Whitney Houston song, 'I Will Always Love You'...but it's not sung by Whitney. I think it's Dolly Parton, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? The commercial makes me cry everytime I see it. I would love for my FH to dance with his Mom to it. HELP!!!

I feel the same way. Everytime I see that commerical I cry too. Yes it is sung by Dolly Parton and it is a perfect song for your FI to dance with his mother too.

It's Dolly Parton's original version...It's from the movie Best Little Whorehouse in Texas!

Dolly's is the original version. Kevin Costner had heard about it and urged Whitney to sing it for the movie's soundtrak.

I don't know that commercial, but the one that always makes me cry is the one with the woman getting the sonogram and the song playing is 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'. Oh, I'm getting teary-eyed just thinking about it!

Yes, I know which commercial your talking about (even though I can't remeber what it's for, LOL). It is Dolly Parton, she recorded the song a long time ago way before Whitney Houston. I think it's a sweet song but you FMIL may not really like the words...'I wll only be your way'...I think that's how the song goes.

Re: I Will Always Love You
I pay attention to lyrics, and as a result, I have to say I don't think this song is really ideal for a mother/son dance... To me, its a sad break up song. Here are the lyrics if you are curious:
If I should stay Well, I would only be in your way And so I'll go, and yet I know That I'll think of you each step of my way And I will always love you I will always love you Bitter-sweet memories That's all I have, and all I'm taking with me Good-bye, oh, please don't cry 'Cause we both know that I'm not What you need I will always love you I will always love you And I hope life, will treat you kind And I hope that you have all That you ever dreamed of Oh, I do wish you joy And I wish you happiness But above all this I wish you love I love you, I will always love
I, I will always, always love you I will always love you I will always love you I will always love you

Re: I Will Always Love You
I think a perfect song for a Mother/Son or Father/Daughter dance is 'If I Could', by Regina Bell and also Barbra Streisand. It is so beautiful

Valencia,
Do you have the lyrics to 'If I Could'? I can't think of how that song goes.

Re: I Will Always Love You
If I Could
If I Could I'd protect you from the sadness in your eyes give you courage in a world of compromise yes I would If I could I would teach you all the things I've never learned and I'd help you cross the bridges that I've burned yes I would if I could I would try to shield your innocence from time but the part of life I gave you isn't mine I've watched you grow so I could let you go if I could I would help you make it through the hungry years but I know that I can never cry your tears but I would if I could if I live in a time and place where you don't want to be you don't have to walk along this road with me my yesterday won't have to be your way if I knew how I'd try to change the world I brought you to and there isn't very much that I can do but I would if I could if I could I would try to shield your innocence from time but that part of life I gave you isn't mine I watched you grow so I could let you go if, if I could I would help you make it through those hungry years but I know that I can never cry your tears but I would if I could yes I would yes I would if I could
