I WILL NOT BE USING THE PROGRAMS

So EVERYONE can be at peace I have canceled my order w/ Laura (she is making them much differently now, but still making my programs). It was a mere sample that I no longer want.

Curly, I am so sorry this turned out this way, and that you feel you have to do this. I believe that your vendor had all good intentions and so did you.

I am sure she will make you an equally beautiful program if you decide not to use the sample you received.

I am soo sorry Karina. I cannot believe this has gone so far. After all of this I don't think I would of wanted it myself either.

Karina, I am very sorry it has come to this. Truly. They were beautiful and I think a kudos goes out to everyone from Laura to Stef to you. The work was beautiful on every end.

My boss is a leading attorney in the US Copyright law and has an opinion on this, which is basically that nobody is truly at fault. In any event, he says changing the programs, if Stef is truly angry, is probably a good idea.

Edited to add: One need not register for a copyright for a material to be copyrighted. Once someone creates a work, it belongs to them and is considered 'copyrighted' whether a formal filing has been made with the Patent and Trademark Office or not. Sorry to be a party pooper...

Curly...So sorry this has turned into such a fiasco. These are programs!?!?! Shouldn't we be worrying about bigger things these days?

it doesnt even matter if they were, stef was allowing brides to use them, she never said they HAD to make them themselves, more than once she gave out her template.

Curly ASKED her to make them, it's that simple. She couldn't or didnt have the time to make them herself. It's not as if Laura is trying to pretend the design was hers.

Curly is not using them so it doesnt even matter anyway.

Ok,
No offense here, but I dont think there is anything wrong with curly using those programs. LA Productions is not marketing these programs, she was just merely pleasing one particular customer. This is what 'custom made' means. I understand that Stef worked really hard though.
So, here is my question, did LA Productions offer you money Stef? Because that would make it 'ethical'?
Anyway FH is a an attorney, and has handled copyright cases. He feels nothing wrong was done here, and his job revolves around ethics!
(Yes, my FH is an ethical lawyer...hehe)
Anyway, I am not saying Stef didnt do a wonderful job, but I do feel she was given credit for that. LA Productions is NOT in the wrong here.

Curly, I've seen you around the boards. Just wanted to say I'm sorry you're going thru this.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that someone would post a picture (or ANY information) on the WORLD WIDE WEB & expect exclusivity, believing they could limit who uses/copies it & who doesn't?? have to disagree w/the above poster who says copyrighting doesn't make a difference. If that were true, we wouldn't need to copyright anything at all & the field wouldn't exist.

A bride (or even a vendor) from the other side of the world could stumble upon this website, fall in love with those same programs and do EXACTLY what Curly did, and nobody would be any the wiser. Not to diss Stef, her programs were nice, but I've seen programs very similar to those sooooo many times during my year of wedding planning - they were nice but definitely not unique, imo.

And finally, I think every single bride on this board has seen a picture of something they liked and used that idea in some way, shape or form. So are we supposed to track down the owner of every picture, etc. and ask permission to use or copy it? Yeah, right. Who's got that kinda time on their hands.

Curly I hope you and Laura can create something even better, everything happens for a reason so there's something better out there waiting for you to find it. Hope you have a wonderful wedding day. sorry so long!
