I wish I could have but, can't afford

If your like me and are paying for a majority of your wedding you now how I feel. I would of loved to have a Sat night wedding, Tall centerpieces and Verdi as my photographer. I just cant do it. I know its just one day but, I still think about it. Me and FH are just starting out in jobs, he's not even out of school yet, so we have no money yet. Anyone else feel this way?????????

I wish that I could have spent more money on my flowers, but that's about it.

Its totally ok.......You will have such a great time planning YOUR wedding, and it will so special to you & your FH. Me & Michael are paying for our wedding ourselves, and it is totally fine. You save your $, budget yourselves and do what you can. There are great photographers for the $ you can afford, and people still have fun on Fridays, and Sundays too!

Every day. Im still in school, not working and we have 5 kids. So yeah I know Im going to have to let go of alot of things I wanted but Im sure if we keep going through the boards we'll find things we didn't even think of that are more in our price range. Im still trying to scrape together my deposit because things keep popping up when I've got it.

Oh I think just about everyone understands what you're going through. All of these parts of a wedding cost SO much, so you do what you can do...and I'm sure it will be fabulous!!! It has so much more to do with the people involved:))) For what it's worth, I wish I could have Verdi photographers also, but there are other options and you can just be very clear with whoever you choose as to what you want. It will be great!!!

I hear you 100%!!!! I would love to use Pedestals (not for $2500), I would love to use Patken (not for $3500), I would love to have a Saturday night, heck even a Friday night (not at $75 pp for Fri and who knows how much for Sat).

When FH and I booked our hall and even now, we set certain guidlines as to what we found to be most important and did what we could to get those things.

Example-
We wanted shrimp cocktail at the CH-we are having it as a passed hor's douvre (sp?)

We wanted Prime Rib as one of the dinner choices (we went with the basic dinner menu b/c it had that as a choice)

We wanted evening, so we are compromising on the day of the week, to get the evening.

It's tough compromising, but we are not settling.

It's hard not getting all the 'wants', but at least we're getting what is important to us.

Yup, In the same boat........paying for the wedding all by ourselves and Im currently at my 2nd p/t job making some more mula for the wedding fund.
I have FH brother and sister to compete with since their weddings were extravagant and wonderful!! All asked if ours would top them all and Im sorry to say.....Probably not!!
(FYI: they didnt pay 100% for their weddings)

I want it all too so I sacrifice being here to make up what I can and honestly, I am not here to please anyone except me and FH. Our day and we are going to try to make it the best WE can. No shrimp at our CH, no Vienesse hr...just what we can offer.

I am so with you on this one. We are paying for everything (except my dress) therefore we had to make some tough decisions. We made a list of must haves, nice to haves but necessary, and no need for. Example: must have was a hall with 1 wedding on the water, nice but not necessary flowers as centerpieces. Bottom line we are proud to be doing this ourselves, our way and Im sure everyone is going to have fun regardless of what we did not have.

I hear you ...
FH and I are hoping for a Feb 2007 wedding because its probably going to take us that long to save, and we might STILL have to take out a loan. His parents paid for the hall at his sister's wedding 3 yrs ago, and they are firm believers that the bride's family does the wedding, groom's does RD. My parents paid for my undergrad schooling and I have 2 younger siblings. FH and I are paying for everything ourselves, our parents made this clear a couple of hours after the ring was slipped on my finger.
I've learned from many people that it definitely CAN be done, and working through tough $$ situations will make FH and you stronger as a couple.

I wish I could have had a seperate limo for me and my dad rather than waiting for the guys limo to pick us up. It saved us a lot of money this way, but I wanted to have a Rolls or something of my own. Also, I wish I could have had flowers to decorate my cake (rather than what the hall made) and gotten a wedding planner for the day. I also wish we had it on a Saturday, but I thought again, we would save. It will be special and beautiful any way!

I hear you 100%!! I am planning a wedding, buying a house and paying for school all on my FH and my salaries (not enough $ for all that ) but, what can you do! We have decided to just do what we can and decide what is important to us and what is not worth the $$.

My parents are helping us with the reception, but we have to come up w/ so much money! I would've loved to have spent more on each vendor, but as it is we'll be spending way more than anticipated!

i keep telling myself that it is just one day and i can't blow my life's saving/ i am setteling on many things. I have decided to just have fun at the wdding and look beautiful of course ;)
