eek! I'd say inappropriate for sure.

My FMIL tried to pass off a bridesmaids dress as the one she was going to wear. She actually purchased a sample and brought it home and acted like she did such a good job.

I quickly told her that the consultant steered her in the wrong direction (white lie), that no one buys a sample and is happy with it (white lie), the color was all wrong (total truth...my girls are wearing green and she bought a green dress). She quickly returned it and got something much more appropriate and i feel better and she feels better...
