Ideas for wedding gift?

Hey Ladies,

I figured I would ask the experts. FH and I are going to a wedding this Sunday in Jersey City. The groom is a college buddy of FH.
We recently went with them to a wedding, I had to ride with them because FH was in the bridal party and I noticed a big plastic garbage bag sitting next to me. I'm like 'wow, what's that?' and they were like 'oh, that's the wedding present. We bought them pillows.'

I was a little shocked because I've never seen anyone bring a present wrapped in garbage bags and I've never bought a present for a wedding. (not that there's anything bad with that, i've just personally always given a check.)

Now, these two do really well for themselves, live in Manhattan, work in Manhattan etc. What do you think would be appropriate to give them?

why not give them what you would give anyone else?

Pillows in GARBAGE BAGS

What really got me was the garbage bag part!

FYI, that's what I want to give as well (cash) but FH was like 'we should give off the registry.' But I don't want to...

Pillows? Garbage bags? WOW! I don't even know what to say...


I would give cash and hope 2 get it back. I know I'd be pissed though if they gave me 1/2 of what I gave them!

1 of my friends kept a journal of how much every1 gave her so they could 'return the favor' when their friends got married.

Yes, I definitely would like to give cash because I feel we are all in the same boat and $$$ would definitely help out. I'm going to talk to FH about it.
And not that there's anything wrong with giving off their registry, but I just noticed the only things left on their registry were these crystal glasses that were $190 dollars EACH.

if the gave other couple pillows assume they will give you a gift too and not cash just because you give them cash doesnot mean they will return the gift...so give them what you feel comfortable giving but exspect the pillows in a black bag from them
that really seems strange...
