ideas for where to put envelopes...

I am looking for an idea other than the envelope bag, box, birdcage, mailbox, etc for a place where guests can deposit their cards at the reception. I hate the whole idea of this, because I just feel the whole thing is a little tacky, but my mom says that I need something, and I guess I kind of agree...but...I want something notice-able enough so guests will find it, but not too overwhelming...any ideas appreciated...

I know what you mean. I have been to weddings with mail box's etc. and people are sort of put off by them. As we made our rounds of the tables our guest handed us cards. My husband and I deposted them in a box that I had decorated as a present. This worked well for us as everything was in one place and secure. Just a note - we were surprised at the number of people that actually gave us cash.

For my sisters wedding, she used a money bag. Since neither one of us were going to wear our mom''s wedding dress, we made it out of her train. She carried it around at the beginning of the reception for the guests to hand her cards, and then she had it locked up in the reception hall. I''ll probably do the same.
