Identity Theft, almost a victim.......

Identity Theft, almost a victim.......

I can not believe that I was almost a victim of identity theft. I recently sign up with paypal to order something from eBay. I was checking my email and I receive a email indicating that someone has tried to use my account several times and that my account has be hijacked *** hijacked, I immediately contact paypal and she indicated that my account is in good standards and no foreign activities have been made, she goes on- someone is trying to get information (Identity theft). WOW, I was in total shock and the bad thing is, I click on the link (idiot), but thank goodness my computer block it and no info. was giving.

So girls be careful when ordering things online, don't they realize that planning a wedding is stressful enough.

Be very careful!

They're called 'spoof emails'. If you click on a link and the address doesn't read 'paypal.com' be sure to delete that email right away!

The same thing happened to me. As soon as I scrolled down and saw they wanted my SS# I knew it was a fake!

Especially with paypal, you'll get these emails a lot. It's not just you receiving them -- they send them out to tons of users (they do it for other sites as well to try to steal your information, even banks!)

The PayPal scam is the worst I've personally received, but it contains a link that directs you to a page that looks JUST LIKE the paypal log-in page.

NEVER click links in emails relating to your bank account or something like paypal. Always type in the correct web site address (or use your bookmark) and log in as usual.

They are scary...
1 day at work I received an email from my bank required me to updated some of my information and I needed to do it within 24 hrs otherwise my account would be suspended. They provided a link in the email so my first reaction was 'OMG, I better do it soon' but then all of the sudden I realized one thing: I never gave my work email to any bank or credit card or whatsoever... So I called my bank up and asked them. Of course, they said they would never do it thru email and advised me do not click on those link. ( I kinda told them they should do something about it because that email had their logo on it and many people might fall for it and they said they were working on it)

Those thefts are scary and dangerous..we have to be very careful...

thank goodness nothing else happened -- but I have gotten those spook e-mails and they almost look like the real thing. I contacted papypal to check it out and they had me fwd them the spoof e-mail so could track them down or try to at least. I think they tell you what to look for and how to tell if they are spoofs! be careful ladies!!
