Re: If anyone knows anything about Brentwood Schools

Hi,

I have a friend who student taught, subbed there. She had an amazing experience. She loved it and said not to believe all of the negative rumors about the district.

The only one 'problem' she had was with ESL students and her inablility to communicate very effectively with them. good luck, I am finishing my student teaching now and I LOVED it!!! I was in West Islip.

What subject, grade are you teaching?

I heard that some of the students are a little difficult, buit there is NOT one teacher who has said anything bad about their work environmet.
They LOVE working for the ditsrict and their collgeages, and their staff is so supportive.
That is what keeps me at my district. I work with hard c kids, but I LOVE the popel I work with, and that is so important.
Good Luck

Re: If anyone knows anything about Brentwood Schools

a very LARGE district!! i have 7 friends that teach there ( 2 in Hs, 1 freshman center,
2 ms, 2 elem)
i think the younger kids will be 'easier' to teach however they are more 'advanced' for there age-more 'street smart'; there are gangs and such -more in the secondary level; the language could be a barrier; and some kids don't come from such 'priveledged' backgrounds--my one friend always tells me how she buys the kids things and books and how some of them love school so much b/c school is the only stable thing in their life-(this is not just in the brentwood district --there are kids like that all over); they all love the staff in their schools and love how the kids that don't have much truly appreciate all the 'extras' they give them....i think as long as your cooperating teacher is great along w/the environment-your student teaching experieince will be great!

I student taught in Central Islip...I loved it cause the parents done bother you, but the kids are so great, very smart despite what you might hear, and its not as dangerous as you might imagine....The kids are adorable, have fun!!!!

I am finally done with my student teaching! It's a great experience!

I replied to you on LIF. I went to school in Brentwood all my life and now I teach adult ESL in Brentwood. Yes, it can be rough, but don't worry too much about that. So many Brentwood grads go back there to teach because they want to give back to the community and the kids who want to learn REALLY want to learn.
