I haven't done the precana thing , but when I met with my priest to set the date and time, he suggested that we go get the marriage license about a week before the wedding. I believe they date the license when you get it, so you can not go more than a month in advance. We'll be getting ours in Hempstead, although any city hall will do.

Basically, he just needs it to sign it the day of, but it's up to you to get it....the church can't provide that for you. It's a government document, not a church document.

i believe you can get it up to 60 days before your date. if you get it earlier it makes it invalid. you must get it 24 hours before your ceremony, b/c in NY their is a 24 hour waiting period.
