Its the correct thing to do. If you dont care what others (mostly the older generation) will think and you dont want to do then dont. I did both and was very glad that I did. I didnt expect to enjoy the receiving line but it was wonderful.Everyones situation is different. All I can tell you is there was one bride in my family who didnt go to all the tables and it is still talked about today. They have been married for 10 years.

We did both. The reason was because some of the people at the church didn't attend the reception, and some people at the reception didn't attend the church. The receiving line didn't take a long time at all maybe 15 minutes - and our church was packed! Going to the tables took longer because people wanted to sit and chat...but it you're nice (and quick) about it - it will be fine.Good luck

Re: If I have a recieving line do we have to go table to table?
On the questions regarding not doing a receiving line after a church reception...We were married in church, and didn't do a receiving line. After we were 'Mr. & Mrs.' we walked down the aisle and went into a side room. I'm so happy we had those few moments alone immediately following the ceremony.
We asked our BP to hand out the rose petals and ask people to step outside. There wasn't any confusion. If the guests don't see the B&G when they exit the church then I think it's pretty obvious there isn't going to be a receiving line.
We didn't have programs since we had a very short ceremony, but I think a little note in the program if you're having one is a good idea too.
Hope this helps.
