If It Weren't So Stupid - It Might Be Funny...
So FH and I planned to get our marriage license on Tuesday (the one that just passed). I realized the Friday before that my LICENSE was missing. After calling around, DMV told me that if I came down with a photocopy of my license and whatever other ID I had - they would issue me a temp. Town Hall agreed to allow me to use the photocopy combined with the temp. No problem, right?
Ha!
Tuesday morning I go to the Hauppauge DMV bright and early. I present my story with photcopied license, my SS card, my utility bills, a bank statement, a debit card, a check and my W2's. The guy says... 'This is only 5 points - I need 6.' So I smile brightly and explain that this is all i have. I am getting married in 10 days and I need a temp license to get my marriage license and that when I called, the DMV told me that all I needed was my photocopied license and something proving address and that an image retrieval could be done. He goes 'He lied - why don't you go to Town Hall and get your birth certificate - that would be 6 points. I told him that town hall wouldn't give me a birth certificate without a temp license and he told me that I could have my parents get it. I told him that my parents kept my original document but had passed away recently - which is why I couldn't locate the original. He said 'That's why adults get their vitals from their parents when they leave the nest' I wanted to punch him - but I gathered my stuff and went to town hall.
I showed them everything I had and they gave me my birth certificate. Then I went to the DMV in Medford.
I start to spread my things out and she says - you ready? - 'I only need the photocopy of the license for image retrieval. You can put everything else away.' I was so mad... but also relieved. UNTIL..
'Oh wait.. I can't give you a temp. You have an open suspension on your license.'
SAY WHAT??
Back in 2000 I had an Escort GT. I never gave it oil and the engine seized. The DMV claimed that I hadn't returned the plates. Which I had. After much discourse they marked the plates as lost - but handed me a suspension and told me I had to pay some ridiculous fee per day between my insurance 'lagging' and the plates being marked as lost - or have the suspension stand for x amount of days. I chose to let it stand for whatever many days - it was like 6 months. I THOUGHT that after that time was over I was fine. BUT apparently you have to pay a fine. $25. And if you don't pay it - it stays with you until the next time you visit the DMV.
So I paid the fine - and guess what? You can't get a replacement or temp until the suspension clears the system. In 48 hours.
So we didn't get our marriage license. I am so busy with everything that I have had a LOT of leaving early and going in late to work. And now it is one more day ot add!
Eh.. I guess we will get it done. And then I will get married!![]()
