If It's not my fridge its...

Original post by Blu-ize

My gall bladder.. having a sonogram on Friday. Has anyone had one removed? I hear they suck it out of your belly button.

A little apprehensive...

Yeah, it could be that too. After the sonogram we will know more. It seems to be directly related to alcohol.

What kind of surgery did he have and how long was he in the hospital for?

I don't know too much about it, since it was before I knew DH, but I don't think it was bad. Also, they have probably improved techniques since then.

FH's mother is having it removed in 2 days.

Her surgeon assured her that he's done 2500 of those surgeries, and all were able to be done laproscopically. (belly button, with 4 incisions). She's staying overnight Friday into Saturday, and the Dr. told her she'd be uncomfortable for a couple of days.

eta: her's has nothing to do with alcohol, but more likely her horrible diet. Very high fat.

thanks all. I'm sure mine is from a few reasons. I don't do anything in excess, but when I overindulge its really bad.

Also with my other gastro issues, it doesn't help.

I'm really worried that it could be something with my pancreas..

My dad just had his removed in December--about 3 weeks after our wedding! poor daddy was sick @ the wedding and didn't even know it! the dr. said his was the worst he's ever seen--he had sooooooooo many (like 100's) of stones.....so they tried it through his bellbutton, but then they had to do it the old fashioned way--you'll be 100% fine with the new way....

I hope I didnt' scare you. I read that gallstones could cause pancreatitis , but then once the gallstones are removed, the pancreas is no longer irritated & goes back to normal.
So, maybe that is what it is.

Don't drive yourself crazy with all the 'what-if's' After the sonogram & the blood tests, you'll know more.

How did he feel? What kind of symptoms did he have...poor Dad...I hope he feels ok now.

FH's Mom's symptoms were:

-extreme fatigue

-constant peeing (she'd get up in the middle of the night around 3 or 4 times)

-back pain (kidney area)

She thought she was having kidney problems, underwent many tests (including a doppler), and they determined the problem to be gallstones blocking her passages into and out of the gallbladder.

It just goes to show you that the symptoms really vary. I've known a few people who had the doubled over pain type and the ones that just didn't feel right..very individual. I did some research and there is acute and chronic. Acute is the attack and the chronic is probably everything else.
