If someone else is paying for something for your wedding...do the get the only vote?

Original post by mao0426

If someone is paying for something...and they offered...do you have say in it? or is it their decision and no discussions or questions asked...I dont want to get into details so I hope this makes sense

They do have a say..but it's still YOUR wedding...so they DON'T have ALL the say!!

i say no because they are paying for it for YOU
therefore, you and FH should still have a say in what it is the $$ is being spent on

i had this problem and the parents were starting to get silly and saying that since it was their money they would have the say

so we said F YOU GUYS..its on us..we refinanced our car and saved our a$$es off and paying for practically all of it

My Mother is paying fopr the entire reception as wella s my dress. She hasn't made any suggestions as to what she would like to see or what we must do. I love her even more for that.

FMIL paying for flowers and was going to pay for RD. We found the most reasonable place. She doesn't want to pay for OOT guests, so we offered to pay.

She says we shouldn't have to pay, and if people aren't in the wedding they shouldn't be invited. She said she would do it but it would come out of her gift to us.

blah

SO WE CANCELLED THE RD

Yes, ideally it should be a collaborative process, but if the FILs offer it with strings you can't accept, then you may have to pass.

most of my family is helping pay for vendors, so far I have been blessed with everyone telling me to pick whoever is within budget.

Fh's mom is paying for our florist and she is letting me pick what I want but I definately let her have a say since shes paying. So far its been good and I do say if I dont like something but in a nice way.

I think they should have SOME input, but you should have the final say!

i think if someone is paying for it they should have input but your the final say along with FH. I feel people who have parents pay neglect their wishes SOMETIMES and i feel if they are paying for it they should be taken into consideration. On the other hand they shouldn't run it for you. It is for you and fh.

you def. need to have a say in it...If they are paying for it that is very nice but it is considered a gift but it is your wedding...why would they pick out how the gift should be set up...

My step dadis paying for the church....If he picked out the reading the mass would only last 5 mins...
