If strike stays, FH has to work on Christmas!!!!

Please, please pray that this strike ends. My FH is a cop and he has to work every night-12 hour days for as long as the strike goes on...hes already been doing it this whole week so I havent seen him in over a week. Its a lot of OT, but if it lasts then he wont be around for Christmas or Christmas Eve--that would be sooo sad!!

I'm praying for you! I just found out last night that my FH, who's in the FDNY, who was scheduled to have Christmas off, might be forced to work because they have a lot of people injured and need 7 more people. Since he's off for Christmas Eve and Christmas, he is first in line to get called in.

Guess its one of our first lessons in what its going to be like to be married to a cop or fireman:)) It always seems to happen when we have other plans too--LIke Christmas obviously--but the last time it happened we were scheduled to check out reception halls for the first time. It rarely happens that he has to stay--but when it does it counts.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us. These transit workers don't realize just how many people they are affecting.

I hope it ends soon for everyone involved. And I will say an extra prayer for you FH and all cops. 12 hours outside is rough.

What about the families of the transit workers?? Why aren't people talking about them? My FH works for transit and he loses 2 days pay for every 1 day. So if they keep on with the strike that means FH won't get paid. So my NewYear is not looking soo bright.

I just have a problem with union leaders trying to bring the city to its knees in hopes to use it as leverage to get what they want. I'm sure your family didn't have any part in the decision to strike, but I really don't sympathize with the union when the offer that the MTA made was more than generous in comparison to many other city agencies and private companies. I hope, for you and your family, and for all the people affected, that it ends soon.

I actually heard Al Sharpton say on TV yesterday, 'we're going to shut this town down!'

I have to disagree with you on this. They know exactly how many people they are affecting - that is the point. If they are going to get whatever their contract demands are, this (unfortunately for commuters etc) is the best way - a strike at the busiest time of the year.

i'll be praying for a strike end too. i'm actually baby-sitting my brother's kids right now, as he was called into work on his day off to do a 12 hour shift. my FH is in the academy and will most likely have to be thrown into it too!!
