IF TERRI IS NEXT WHAT ABOUT YOUR OR I

I can't believe in 2003 something like this can happen in a modern world. Things like these make me think of doing a living will.
*************************************
I want to share with all of you a situation that I learned of just yesterday

Please read the information below and decide for yourself if you can take the time today to make a phone call, send an email or fax to the people listed below and anyone else you think of that can help.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 14, 2003
TAMPA, FL:

Disabled Woman Ordered Starved to Death by State!

A Florida court has ordered the removal of the feeding tube that feeds Terri Schiavo who is disabled from an unknown injury. The court has decided that she should DIE OF STARVATION beginning today October 15, 2003, however:

Terri IS NOT IN A COMA - she is reactive and has sleeping and wakeful periods

Terri is NOT A BURDEN. Her parents, brother and sister have offered to care for her in a safe environment and she has a fund with $750,000 in it for her care, so she is not a burden to anyone, tax-payers included.

Terri RESPONDS to verbal, auditory and visual stimuli Terri BREATHES normally on her own

Terri SMILES, TRIES TO TALK to her family and friends and will MOVE HER LIMBS on command

Terri’s condition CAN IMPROVE with proper treatment (Local medical evidence supports this claim), though she has been denied such treatment by her husband, who went to court to obtain the order that will end Terri’s life.

Don’t let the Florida Courts starve this young and innocent woman to death. Terri’s time is running out and she needs your help NOW!

Terri CAN benefit from treatment and she deserves to receive it. Don’t allow the execution of a disabled young woman. We urge you to act TODAY!

There are so many things each of us can do to stop this horrible crime against an innocent young woman. Even if you think your life is too busy to allow you to worry about someone else's problems, you should be very interested in stopping this court-sanctioned homicide.

It affects us all, our loved ones, our children,
our parents and our friends.

Here are things you can do to change the outcome of Terri's case and to protect yourself:

Phone Governor Bush
In Tallahassee on 850-488-7146

Phone Attorney General Charlie Crist
In Tallahassee on 850-414-3990

Re: IF TERRI IS NEXT WHAT ABOUT YOUR OR I

I saw here parents on the news last night and she has a husband who has the choice of this matter to keep her alive or not and he wants her to die. Her parents asked her husband to give them the right and he denied. Her parents also feel its not proven but that he beat her and that is why she is like this.

I think it is horrible and very said.
I think her husband has something to do with this.......

Kesha, I did not know a husband had that much say over your life. This makes me think of a great OOTD for newlyweds

Is this the couple who were divorcing when she got hurt? He's got a new honey and doesn't want to be bothered with Terri. What a sick animal! Why is the court even considering his opinion?

Re: IF TERRI IS NEXT WHAT ABOUT YOUR OR I

I don't know the specifics of whether they were to divorce or not, or if he considers her a burden...but she's been in the coma for 13 years.

That is no way for a person to 'live' IMO and I would hope that my family wouldn't sustain my 'life' like that, for that long.

Taht's horrible. Why is the husband doing this?

ETA: seems to me that there maybe $$ or land or something he would be inheireting (sorry I can't spell) if she were to die, so maybe that's why. Disgusting. If that is the case and it means so much to him, maybe the parents should give him her inheirentance and he can let them care for her themselves.

If she was in a coma and not responding at all, that is one thing. But she isn't and she is responding to stimuli. He should be ashamed of himself for being this despicable.

She has been in a coma for 13 years - when will the treatment kick in? When is enough, enough?

My grandmother was in a coma for 8 months before she died last year...her body twitched if we touched her leg, her eyes moved if she heard a voice - sometimes. For the most part, she was a 79 y/o woman who spent the last 8 months of her life in a diaper b/c the staff couldn't be bothered with cleaning her up every day. She lived the last 8 months of her life hooked up to machines - she had sores all over her body. It was a terrible thing to watch...I can't imagine why this woman's family would WANT to keep her sustained to machines when nothing has happened in 13 years. It just seems sort of selfish to me.

She is not in a coma she is not. Read the article

Re: IF TERRI IS NEXT WHAT ABOUT YOUR OR I

she smiles and I saw her on the news and her mother took a baloon and put it in front of her and slowly moved it from side to side and she followed it she moved her head.
THERE IS NO REASON WHY SHE SHOULD DIE.
she sits up in the chair and everything.

I work with people like her all day and most of them cant brush there own teeth but when you smile at them you have made there day they are just happy to be alive and around people.

Re: IF TERRI IS NEXT WHAT ABOUT YOUR OR I

I understand what the article says - this is her family talking. When my grandmother moved and moaned and groaned on command, we all thought she was coming out of her coma (a state of deep unconsciousness) but she never regained consciouness - even though she opened her eyes. She was never medically classified as being conscious - awake - out of her coma.

Would any of you really want to 'live' this way for thirteen years?

I don't like this case...but I have to side with Colleen on this one...FL is only ruling by the law...but I do think that if the parents want the responsibility that they should be able to appeal for custody.

Judge Greer is acting at the behest of Terri's husband, Michael Schiavo, who petitioned the court five years ago for permission to withdraw his wife's tube-supplied food and water. In a normal case, a spouse would be trusted to make medical decisions in the best interests of an incapacitated husband or wife.

this guy is the real jackas$

I also notice that it says that this was to happen on 9/11...did it? I can't find that it did or that it didn't

Re: IF TERRI IS NEXT WHAT ABOUT YOUR OR I

Well, I'll say ONE thing, it's not up to the state to decide, it's up to her family.
If her husband may have something to do with her condition, he should NOT be allowed to make any decisions.
This is sickening.

Starving to death is a HORRIBLE way to die. Would any of use want to go that way?

Re: IF TERRI IS NEXT WHAT ABOUT YOUR OR I

remember Steel Magnolias? It was Jackson who signed the papers to pull the plug on Shelby and I don't think mom was too happy...

the law giving rights to spouses works most of the time...but I think that in this case the parents should try to file for a divorce on their daughter's behalf...or try to sue for medical rights...

Re: IF TERRI IS NEXT WHAT ABOUT YOUR OR I

I know Roger said he is going to do a living will, so that he does not hang around like a vegetable in case anything like this should happen to him. I told him to not write that I should pull the plug, but let his sisters or his mom do it, b/c they might think I did it b/c I want the insurance money. None of us can speak until we are in the situation. I know I could not pull anyone's plug and if she is showing improvements and she is not a burden to the husband what is the rush?? I guess when he said his vows he did not mean in sickness and in health, his vows said until I can pull your plug and move on with a sweet young thing with the insurance money

Making her starve is like putting her in a wheelchair and pushing her in a pool to drown. Its horrible

Re: IF TERRI IS NEXT WHAT ABOUT YOUR OR I

Where is the rest of this - the information on the husband? Where is it that he abused her or that he's out for insurance money or that they were about to divorce when this happened? I haven't seen any of this - so it's unfair to come to a real conclusion.

There is no way - even more now after having been through this with my grandmother - that I would want to live this way, supported by machines. It takes a toll on the family - I just cannot fathom the toll this has taken on the family - husband included - over the past 13 years. I visited my grandmother almost every day, for 8 months while she was in a coma. It was everything from heartbreaking to maddening to disgusting. I couldn't imagine doing it for 13 years.
