I don't want to get into the debate of if there is going to be one or not, but if DH was to be drafted, what income can you rely on? Does present employer pay, or do you go to military salary?

Re: if there were to be a draft
I'm pretty sure (not positive here) that he would get some sort of military salary. I'm not sure how that works though. I hope there's not a draft!

I'm pretty sure it's like as if he was called from reserve duty. The military pay isn't that great if you first get called/drafted.
thanks, all other obvious reasons aside, this would be a horror if there were to be a draft. I would be lost without DH's income. So not only are you a lovesick worried mess, but homeless too.

He would only get Active Duty pay.
I am far from homeless and from being a lovesick worried mess and my husband is active duty military.
If you are that concerned about being lost without Dh's income you might want to make sure you have a large insurance policy on him since there is more likely a greater chance of him getting sick or injured in every day life then there is of a draft.

yeah not talking about me personally, we don't even have a house yet, just in general, that if there were a draft, that is a horror already, then if you have drop in income as well, bad times would def be ahead.

Re: if there were to be a draft
I would definitely be fine on my own financially, no problems there but I would hate being away from DH. But he's 35 so I seriously doubt he would get called.
My friend's FH is a reservist and just got called to active duty for a year. It has destroyed them financially. He had to sell his oral surgery practice and since it was new they lost a lot of money. She has had to go back to work FT instead of furthering her schooling to make ends meet while he is gone. She also doesn't get to see him for at least a year maybe longer.
Ohhhhhh how I have opinions but I will keep them to myself.

Well, I don't know if anybody heard this, but supposibly if there is a draft, they'll take women too.
do some research on military sites. There will be no draft so put your worries at ease. In fact the USMC has had increasing #'s since 9-11, there is nothing to worry about.
Just a few news stories to get everyone all up in arms, like always. I still talk to my FH recruiter regularly and he says recruitment is up, there will be no draft.

Re: if there were to be a draft
My DH's cousin was in the reserves, he got called, his wife and 2 young children had to give up the apartment, and move in with his mother. they could not make ends meet. between daycare and car payments..but they got turned down for food stamps
