Re: If u commute from LI to NYC...
we talk about this all the time. we both work in NYC now. i want to look for a new job next year anyway, so i'm gonna start by looking in LI. i think at least one of us should be working in LI when we have kids, and i have no problem being the one working in LI.

Doubt it, whether we have kids or not.
I get home so freaking late every night
I don't even like it now, after the wedding I'll probably start looking for jobs on LI.

Re: If u commute from LI to NYC...
i don't really have a choice, i have to commute. i'm hoping to work out a four day week where i work from home 1 day and commute the rest of the time.
but i can't really afford to quit my job. FH works in LI so I'm just guessing when we buy a house it will be out there even though I'd much rather stay in Forest Hills - we can't afford a house there though.

Nope. I get home at 7:30 now..it's crazy. After we're married a year, we're probably moving to PA anyway. BUt if we don't I'm going to get a job in LI. Fh makes good money, has great benefits, so I don't need to stay in the city. Thank goodness...i hate commuting!

i know, that's why i doubt we can afford it. Houses in LI are cheaper, though the taxes are out of control.
if i had my choice i'd be in one of those houses in FH Gardens.... I loooove that whole area. it's like a different world.

I KNOW, I LOVE THOSe houses that if you keep going past austin and past the cobblestone street, they are gorgeous but SOOO expensive

My friend has done it for 10 years and now that she's having a baby is going to either find something small out on LI and work near home or may just take a few years off to raise the kid.

I think it would be very difficult esp. if you need to get home quickly incase of an emergancy.

Re: If u commute from LI to NYC...
i changed my job from NYC to LI for that reason.
when I have kids I want to be able to come and pick them up from school if they are sick without being like
hold on hunny...mommy has to see when the next train is!

i guess it depends on what everyone's job is. It's really not that easy to find a job in LI making as much $$ as in the city. As long as you're willing to take a hefty pay cut (which i guess many people are if they have kids).

what's the commute like to jersey? my commute to midtown is kind of a pain - i almost always have to switch trains unless i take the V all the way to bryant park and walk to park ave from there. usually i take the R to the 4/5 or go back a stop to 71st ave and take the E or F. kind of *****, but it's better than the LIRR i guess.
