i actually want to work in NYC bc its easier for me...i work in NJ now so i only wish i was in nyc the commute would be better...i live in queens and from where i am its SOOOO quick to manhattan...so the city would be quicker for me than LI
what's the commute like to jersey? my commute to midtown is kind of a pain - i almost always have to switch trains unless i take the V all the way to bryant park and walk to park ave from there. usually i take the R to the 4/5 or go back a stop to 71st ave and take the E or F. kind of *****, but it's better than the LIRR i guess.
you would be better off with the LIRR bc from forest hills to 34th street pennstation it is 15 minutes on the dot.
Its not easy the commute lol, i take the lirr to penn station, then take the E downtown then take the path
i can take E all the way downtown but its the longest ride...and if i take the R it takes forever its such a slow train then i would take it to the 4 or 5 to the path

Re: If u commute from LI to NYC...
I am actually trying to get off of LI and to NYC to work There is more $$ in the city I am not sure yet about after a baby--but my mom will prob be retired by them and my aunt already stays at home and watches my niece and has offered to watch my kids--so I don't have to worry about getting home early, luckily

yikes. how long does that take?
i guess i would be but i'm not super close to the LIRR - walking it's like 15 mins and then from Penn like a 15 min walk to my office, which isn't that bad but not great in the winter. plus i'm CHEAP and don't want to pay the LIRR vs. the subway.
on fridays in the winter i would drive fh's car when i would go up to Vermont and i LOVE driving - i fly into the city.

well before i started taking the LIRR it would take me an hour and a half but since ive been taking the LIRR it takes 50 mins. So for me its great bc it cut off 40 mins of my commute. ALTHOUGH if i miss the 5:04 train i have to wait around at penn for the 5:38 and i hate that although theres alot of stores inside so ill just go do something lol...but lately if i realize i wont make the 5:04 train then i just stay on the E train and take it straight home.
well depends you might not have to walk to your office from penn...penn station has the a,c, e and 1, 2 and 3 trains, and if you walk outside and across the street theres also the N and R so you can take that about 1 or 2 stops
yeah it does add up with the LIRR but i couldnt take the 1.5 hour commute

i do it when i stay at FH's... from penn i take the 1 or 2/3 to times square and then the shuttle. i work right by grand central so the 4,5,6 are the closest trains. i don't mind walking but on a crappy day where i forgot my umbrella it's no fun.
it def makes sense to take the LIRR at times. fh almost always takes it to the city from forest hills if he's meeting me after work - it's def quicker and like you said the R is sooo slow; the E isn't bad if you just go to midtown but LIRR is still the quickest

YEAH at first i was like ok ill only take the LIRR here and there but i got so used to it lol...before it used to be easy bc we would mostly stay by fh's house in astoria, so i would take the N train to lexington which is 13 minutes on the dot, then the 4 or 5 which is 11 minutes and then just jump on the path so that was the quickest and easiest. but we always stay by me now. Although when fh does stay by me many times ill leave earlier in the morning with him, he drives it to the office in LIC to park there, so i take the 7 to grand central which is 8 minutes on the dot(yes i time these things all the time hahaha) and then the 4 or 5 from there is even less than 10 mins, i like when i get to do that.
Even the E, when i used to take it in the morning during that time, what normally should take 20 mins would seriously take 45 mins, it was the worst, if it ran like it should then it would be fine and easier for me.

does he park in the big garage near the dunkin donuts and the bridge?? my BIL parks there and takes the V in.
it's so quick from astoria - i totally looked into moving there but they had nothing i could afford.
i could also take the v or R to roos ave and take the 7 right to grand central but i'm too lazy to switch and the 7 express doesn't stop at Roos Avenue, which is so dumb because it's a major hub.

no he parks at the one by the court, bc of work he gets a discount there.
yeah i miss living in astoria, it was so much quicker, plus i lived on ditmars which is the last stop on the N so trains were always leaving every 5 minutes

when i went to l'incontro that night, it was SO quick to 59th and Lex. How do you get from where you live now to astoria - do you just drive? I either take the R to steinway but that night i think we took the N to the 7 to the R... it seemed like the only way to get home from Ditmars.

yeah from ditmars its 13 mins exactly to lexington so its so easy. Yeah just driving, taking the train to astoria would be a mess...its funny bc by car its 10 mins and by train it would be a couple of trains and about an hour lol.
One time i had to take the train from my doctors office in astoria to forest hills, i went straight after work so didnt have a car and fh was playing softball so couldnt get a ride. i wasnt far from the R train on steinway so just took the R to forest hills but yeah from ditmars it would be longer to the R train.

i think we'd go out in astoria a lot more if it was easier by train... fh refuses to move the car on the weekends unless we go to LI.
