If you are invited to a wedding but can't attend

Original post by kam29

isn't it standard to give a gift? I always have and while I was speaking with a friend who got married a year ago she said that people who didn't attend the wedding did not give gifts and that I should not expect them to.

I was just curious if this was as shocking to anyone else.

I always send a gift when I cannot attend an event. But FH and I are not expecting the same from our guests.

Don't expect anyone to send a gift who does not attend. This way if you do get some gifts it will be a nice surprise.

If I couldn't make it to a wedding, even if money was very tight, I would mangage to give a little something. Even if it was something I made or bought discounted. Thats just me. But I guess not everyone is like that.

I do all the time. And we received gifts from all the people who could not attend our wedding. In general it was $50 for all the 'no' responses. The 'yes' responses that turned out to be no shows sent a gift as if they attended our wedding.

Hope this helps.
