Re: If you completely cut soda and juice etc out of yoiur diet...
Yes actually I know a girl who did this and lost 30 pounds in six months, that was all she consiously changed. I think that by drinking so much water you decrease your appetite but that is JMO. Try it and see I think so because it is a drastic calorie change you don't realize how much you drink in calories!

I read in a mag once that you should drink one glass of water about 10 mins before eating and this will curb your appetite, and if you still feel a little hungry after eating drink some water, I have found this true. I also cut soda out of my diet for a while and I felt better also.

I cut the soda out of my diet completely unless we go out to dinner (maybe once a week) & it surely made a difference. In a month I have lost at least 8lbs....You surely feel less bloated!

Totally.
I actually drank soda for the first time all week on yesterday and I felt the difference.
I do drink Crystal Light Iced tea in the evenings but I drink 1 cup of Madagascar Vanilla tea in the a.m. at work and water the rest of the day.
Now if I can get the EATING part better, I'd be flyin' it!!!

I'm trying to cut down on soda, out, but will it make a difference, if you didn't drink a lot? To start with. I've never been a 3 coke a day person, but I have a few a week, and sometimes 4 or 5 on the weekend if we go out.

I was not a big soda drinker...Only one glass at dinner maybe 4 times a week. Nothing extraordinary & it seemed to make a difference with me

I feel like soda is just the worst thing to drink. I was a diet coke addict for a long time, and even though it is 'diet' it made a huge difference when i cut it out. i don't know if i lost weight by supplementing it with water, but i certainly felt much more healthy, less bloated, and more 'stable' throughout the day. read: less crashing!!
i find it hard to drink cold water though! so much easier to chug when warm. My sister is a doctor and said i should drink it cold as it is more effective that way. Sounds like she is screwing with me (this is typical) anyone know: does it make a difference?
BTW, new to the boards and LOVE it over here...much less attitude than some other web boards!
Thanks...

I've been meaning to try this.. But to be honest.. everytime I take Coke out of my meal.. I add in dessert.
I need the sugar (rather I want it)
I just wanna shed 10lbs. I know if I was more careful to what I ate and how much and cut out coke I could but GOD it's so hard!

I read that if you cut out ONE CAN OF REGULAR SODA a day you could lose 10 pounds in one year.
I just did the math
120 cal x 365 = 43,800 calorie reduction for the year.
43,800/3,500 = 12.5 pounds
That's not changing anything else.

Hi Bunnymonkey- Welcome!
I have heard the same thing about the cold water- in a book published by Prevention Magazine. I forget the details but you burn a few more calories if its cold. But if you will drink more water if its warm, drink it warm.

I have DRASTICALLY cut my soda intake. They say that caffeine really makes you retain water, so even if you were drinking diet coke, the bloating would still be there. When I REALLY get the urge to drink soda, I either have flavored seltzer or diet caffeine free coke. It's basically water

I haven't had a regular soda in about five years!
I am basically against all sugar, no nutritional value drinks all together. I know I am crazy, but I believe that soda and snapple and stuff like that are one of the main causes of obese children.
I can't put 40 grams of sugar into my body and feel ok about it!!

Jen, I told you that when I cut out soda, I lost 15 pounds!!! That's ridiculous!!! Have you found that you've lost any weight by cutting the soda out?
Now, I just need to cut the coffee in the morning, and the deserts and I'll be ok

Re: If you completely cut soda and juice etc out of yoiur diet...
my fh drank SO much soda, that to 'support me' he went on a 'diet' which involved switching to diet pepsi instead of regular...he lost 30 lbs!! crazy!!
p.s. i find that when i don't drink enough water (i was avoiding it the past two weeks because i'd been on vacation and didn't want to pee constantly) that i gain weight. drinking water flushes you out and helps you lose weight!!
good luck!

I totally agree with you! I have two small children and from the moment they could take a bottle I would give them H2O. Not juice! And now, this is what they prefer. I also have been pretty successful in restricting all refined sugar in the house until they reach school age. I try not to obsess, but I know I only have a few short years to help them develop good habits

I only drink seltzer...it is carbonated so it tastes like soda. I have been this way for 3 months and I dropped a lot of water weight. My beer belly has slimmed down and I can sleep at night without a prescription! Woot woot to decaf and caffiene free.

OK guys I have been on this whole 'no soda, only water' kick for about 3? weeks now and I feel SO much better and way less bloated. Out of those couple of weeks, I have had a diet soda maybe 3 times. And I felt so strange and could barely finish it. I have been drinking water, seltzer (2 or 3 times) and what I REALLY like are the flavored waters. On occasion, I will have Crystal Lite at home. Ok going to weigh myself in the AM and see if it has made any difference!

Wow, it reminds me when I was younger...I use to drink first before eating..and then I would be full after taking a few bites of my food. I just love soda..all of a sudden.
