My dad has a counseling degree and he has been a financial aid counselor at Suffolk for almost 30 years. I only mention that because I wouldn't think that was necesarily counseling, so I think your counseling degree may be more versatile than you think. Good luck, Erica.

I would change my career to a SAHM-- hopefully within the next year or so that will come true!!!

Re: If you could change your career...what would you want to do?

With your counseling and education background you could get a fun job working with college students - in Student Affairs, or Admissions, or Alumni Relations. It may not be exactly applying what you learned, but it's a lot of contact with younger adults, and working for a university has great benefits and the pay isn't too bad.

I would love to work with children, either as a teacher or counselor. I still hope to make the move into that field someday, but since we are looking at buying a new house, we cannot swing me having more student loans. I am hoping to find a fellowship program in CT to pursue my masters in education without a huge debt. I will get there someday, its never too late to make a change.

My dream job would be to own a bookstore in a small town. This is actually something that I may get to do although it won't be for about 10 years or so. DH and I plan to move to a small town in New Hampshire when he retires from the NCPD. DH has always wanted to have his own photography business, so we are working toward combining our two dreams and opening a business in the mountains! Now all we need to do is win LOTTO!
