Re: If you could send your parents to any hotel in Manhattan...
We got engaged at The Palace and it is very beautiful there. You can also check out The W Hotels....there are a few...one in Times Square, one on the east side, one downtown. All are very nice.

Sofitel (44th Street, just East of Times Square) or the Warwick (in the fifties, but I can't remember the exact street)-- both beautiful, classy places, where you can get special weekend package rates

Ritz Carlton in Battery Park - that's where we wanted to stay! Or the one in midtown, but it is pricey...BP is a lot more affordable.

We are doing hotel/dinner Gift Certificates as parent gifts, and I am looking to get my parents into an awesome hotel for two nights.
Ideally, it would be the Four Seasons, but there is just nothing that can justify $550 for one night.
Any suggestions of a beautiful hotel to send them to? They are in their 50's - very sociable, fun, and outgoing.
Thanks!
What a great idea! What style of hotel do you think they'd like? Modern or kind of old-school traditional?
Hey Jennie! Thanks...I'm not sure what they would like...they are pretty hip for a set of parents with 6 kids, but I don't think they would like to be in the middle of an uber-cool scene. Something sort of mixed...

Essex House always has great deals (check the internet) - Yesterday I booked this for $275 per night (for tomorrow night)
I once got the Waldorf-Astoria for $299 online - 1 bedroom apartment, dining room, living room, separate bedroom, 2 bathrooms and all for my boss - his wife loved me for like a year after that!
Make phone calls and check the internet for good deals, it really works

It's not as big a name as some of the other places people have suggested but the Inn at Irving is pretty cool. It's sort of traditional, but it's a block away from Union Square and all the fun stuff that there is to do there. There's also tea downstairs at Lady Mendl's

Marriott Marquis in Times Square - it's right in the middle of all the action!
I agree. I sent my parents there and paid about $200 a night. I gave them play and dinner tickets as well so it worked well because it was near all the other planned activities.

You ladies rock! I had not thought of some of these!! I'm going to pick one this week if it kills me!
Jennie - the Inn at Irving Plaza is such a gem! I never knew it existed. I want to stay there myself! I like that it is off the beaten path and in Union Square, and I'm going to check it out. Thank You!

Don't! Read the reviews on www.tripadvisor.com...there's a reason why The Plaza is being renovated...apparently it stinks. I also wanted to spend my wedding night there (it was a dream for me) but after reading the reviews I was not happy. Plus with the renovations,it would have been terrible.

i'd go w/ the waldorf
one NOT to go to (you ladies probably already know) is milford plaza. everything looks great on their site, even prices are decent but when they get ya... they get ya! don't fall for their site, i dont think they have ONE room that looks like it does on the website

Milford is definitely nastay!
The Palace is quite nice and very centrally located.
The giraffe hotel and the library hotel are both boutique hotels that have some interesting options.
The BP Ritz is kind of out of the way in location but is beautiful and you can often get reasonable prices there.
