If you didn't have an engagement party--did you receive engagement gifts anyway?

I'm curious -- we didn't have a party, but we still received gifts (my parents, all my aunts and uncles, cousins, my MOH, 2 bridesmaids I've known forever -- and my FH's parents, and 2 aunts/uncles on his side).

But my FH feels hurt that we got nothing from his brothers (both married--we didn't even get a card!), and nothing from many aunts and uncles on his side (his family is huge).

I think it's just he's from a big family, and getting engaged is not a big deal for a lot of them. My family is small, and there's a different mindset.

What do you guys think?

Re: If you didn't have an engagement party--did you receive engagement gifts anyway?

We didn't have an e-party and got gifts from most of our family and friends. They have been trickling in druing the past year. We got a lot right away and then nothing for a few months and then agian tons! It's so much fun getting them in the mail! A lot of people gave us $ instead of a present. There are still a few people who haven't given us anything yet and our wedding is less than a month away! (one of them happens to be one of my BM's)

enjoy!

We didn't have an e-party either, but most of my family and our friends gave us gifts, while nothing at all from his side, not a card let alone a gift. I just think that the girl's family is more into her wedding etc. than his family. Also, since his mom and dad are gone, I'm sure that most of the family didn't know until we recently sent out STD's since our wedding is July 3rd. I don't let it bother me.

No engagement party, but we got tons of gifts...some from our registry, and some just cash that we saved for the wedding expenses.

Re: If you didn't have an engagement party--did you receive engagement gifts anyway?

no engagement party. I am still blown away that neither my parents or his even sent us a card. his dad has never contacted my parents, and therefor they will meet for the first time at the rehearsal dinner, which is so strange. I got a gift from a cousin, and a gift from a friend, both vases, and maybe 10 cards from friends.

No e party, sent out announcements that way there is no pressure for anyone to give a gift unless they wanted to and we got a lot of them from close friends, and family.Just think... the bridal shower gifts......

Re: If you didn't have an engagement party--did you receive engagement gifts anyway?

No offical e-party since we don't live near our families. But my parents surprised us with an mini one while at a family wedding. We were all staying at a hotel, so we had a little party in the lobby. Gift wise, got presents from immediate family and then some and none from FH family. They are from Indiana and don't do that. I think it is only a LI thing!

We didn't have a party and I amazed at how many gifts we got. We have been engaged for 6 months and people are still giving us stuff.

We didnt have an -party either. I think its asking too much. My mom doesnt believ in them so, we didnt, and glad that we didnt. We did get some gifts, mostly money, but just from about 5-6 people.

Re: If you didn't have an engagement party--did you receive engagement gifts anyway?

We didnt have a e party either. My family has been way to busy to stick them with another event just didnt seem fair. Everybody is doing so much so far already. And my sister just got married out of town a couple weeks ago.

We have gotten gifts from my side of the family (mom, sister, cousin, aunt, gram, dad), nothing from his side yet(no card or anything) but I think they thought we were going to have a eparty. They do so much though so I dont feel I should expect anything except a card.

and only one of my close friends in the wedding party gave me a e-gift. which was kinda of upsetting, cause we have given all of them engagement gifts party or no party. But what are you going to do. I would just like a card, I have gotten lots of them from some really distant people to that are just very thoughtful.

everybody should do what they are comfortable with.

Re: If you didn't have an engagement party--did you receive engagement gifts anyway?

We didn't have a party and seem to be in the same situation as a lot of you. All of my friends and family gave gifts and none of his did. Once we registered his parents bought us a gift though. We mostly got money which was wonderful b/c we're paying for the wedding and that is what we needed!

No e-party here either. I recieved gifts from my parents, my side of the family, and family friends. His mom gave us a gift, but nobody else from his side of the family. I'm really surprised his aunt didn't send us anything. Not even a card.
