what is the going rate for one? How much do you pay her/him? lastly, how often does she/he come to your house?
I am trying to figure this out, because when we lived in my apartment building in the city we had someone come for about two hours once time a week and she did her routine. Now, we moved to 2100 sq foot house and I feel like I should be paying by the hour. So confusing!

Re: If you have a maid...
My house is about 2200 sq. feet. I have a woman that comes every two weeks - she is slow, so she is usually there about 8 hours and she charges us $75.

I have a 1K square foot apt now and I pay $55. It takes her about 3 hours. I think we pay a lot but from what I hear that's the going rate. I also have someone I like, trust, does a good job and is good with my cat....so it's definitely worth it to me.

I know a lot of the woman who tell you how much they charge an hour.... they will tell you that they worked a long day, but what they really are doing is dragging it along, they could get it done in 3 hours or so. (this is if you are not home)

Re: If you have a maid...
I use a cleaning service and all the ones I called were very expensive. I pay about $90 for my whole house (well 3 bedrooms is $90, all 4 would have been $95 and since the babies room isn't furnished yet - I don't have them clean it). This includes kitchen, 2.5 baths, living room, family room, halls, dining rooms, and bedrooms (they also do my laundry room and half of the gym). Two ladies come with supplies for 2 hours every other Saturday morning.
I think if I found someone private it would have been a little cheaper but I wanted someone to come on weekends until I felt more comfortable letting someone come in when I am not home and couldn't find anyone who would do that.

Re: If you have a maid...
The service I use charges $65 for 4 hours.... I have a big apartment (over 1100 sq feet) and she usually finishes in time (if she doesn't, she doesn't charge me)...
I had Merry Maids come for an estimate -- they wanted $165 for the first 'thorough' cleaning -- which I thought was INSANE! Then $90 per week, $120 every 2 weeks, $130 every month!!!! I was like 'no thanks!!!!!'
Does anyone tip? I do because they come from a service...

Re: If you have a maid...
I just found a woman who comes every week for $80 and cleans 4 bedrooms, lr, kitchen, dr, den, halls, 3 bathrooms including windows. She spnds about 5 hours so I feel that the $16 an hour is fair. I am usually in and out during this time and she truly doesn't miss a spot!
