If you messed up at work, and it will cost someone money, would you admit it?

FAN COOL!

I already resolved this issue, and I'm giving this person a nice, chunky, check.

But, my coworkers told me that I shouldn't.

Basically, someone wanted money for something. I told them that they could have it. Turns out, they are not entitled to get it (IRS regulations). So, instead of doing it 'legitimately', and possibly getting this person in trouble (because they ARE NOT supposed to get the money), and I going to just cut her a check.

I am only doing this because I SAID she'd get her money back, and I want to honor my word. Hey, if my 'word' is no good, then what is good?

And, NO, I am NOT an accountant. I'm an HR person.

no, my boss knows. He agrees with me about giving her the check. Technically, since I already told her that she could have the money, my company now HAS to give it to her. I am just giving it to her now to save the aggravation of a big hassle.

thanthe company should give you a check because you are giving it to her! if your boss said ok than fine.

than the company should give you that money back because you are giving her a check.

I'm having a company check issued.

I'm just wondering if it would have been 'right' to go back and tell her that I was wrong AND that she CAN'T have the money.

I did tell her that I was wrong, but that since I told her she could have the money, I would issue a check for her.
