If it's a really huge jackpot, I like the annuity option, but if the jackpot is only a few million (lol, who am I kidding, that's huge too compared to what I have), I take the lump sum.

Re: If you won: Lump sum, or over time?
my dad always tells me LUMP SUM. He's an accountant so he's figured it all out - when you take it over time you wind up with less because they account for the interest the money will earn over time, so they reduce the total jackpot amount so that with the interest you will potentially earn you get the total amount (am I making any sense?)
If you take it in a lump sum you can earn more interest on it over the years. Either way, I didn't win...although I might have $2 because I don't think I got any numbers...

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way on Lotto, just the game 'pick 10'

my dad plays regularly - he told me no numbers $2, powerball only $2. Go back to where you bought your ticket. Worst thing they can tell you is no, right?
Here are the prize lists...its a little confusing but it looks like no numbers and the power ball = $2. Not just no numbers. aw schucks.

this is true if you take the lottos option of lump or over time...
but there are companies that will buy you payments out...for more than you would have gotten if you asked for the lump sum...
lets say the jackpot was $4 million...lump sum would get you $2 million (just estimate) but over 20 years you would get $4 million
there are companies that will pay you $3 million for your payments...so you get more in a lump sum...but they end up making $1 million as a company...
does that make sense? these companies buy out insurance settlements, court liens, etc...
