Is it genetic?

My mom had miscarriages prior to having my brother and also before I was born. I am not worried about that in my case because just like myself. My mom's system was like clockwork and she knew instantly so some of her miscarriages might have been considered chemical pregancies or other may not have picked up on them. Which is also what happened to myself.

I don't think it has any relation. Dh's grandmother had some type of problem anytime she carried a male baby she misscarried. She has 6 daughters so obviously she had some type of gentic mutation or something that was a problem because she had no problem with her girls. And 5 out of 6 of her daughters have atleast 4 children each (both male and female) with no misscarriages and the 6th isn't married.

I think that with the way technology is now if you have one a Dr's can figure out the reason alot earlier and that nowadays dr's care more about patients family history and know more to look out for now. 20 years ago women were still drinking, smoking and doing whatever when they were pregnant which could also lead to more miscarriages.

IMO the reason that alot of women are age are having fertility problems is due to Xrays that happened when we were still in the womb. One of my coworkers is going through that now, her baby was laying on her kidneys and she had to have surgery to put a stint in well the Dr told her he had to do an XRAY but there were changes her unborn daughters eggs might be damaged from it after he did it.

Wow Laurie your poor friend

Thanks for the info girls and for searching babycenter Lauren

My mom had a few before having me and then a few after and then had my sister 8 years after me. She also had problems with her ovaries and never had regular periods. I have always been regular. So I guess I will see when the time comes.

Jen,

Just leave it in God's hands and try not to worry. Worrying won't help you, the baby or your marriage.

If it makes you feel any better my Mom never had morning sickness ever and I get it starting at midnight and then for the rest of the morning . So just because our mom's were one way doesn't mean we will be.

Happy Belated Anniversary BTW!

I don't knw if this applies to you or not, but I just read an article in the timnes a few weeks ago about how being overweight increases the risk of miscarriage greatly. they're even saying it's better, even if you're in those iffy mid 30's when the biological clock starts ticking to wait 2 years and lose weight and have the baby when you're older than to have the baby younger and when you're overweight. Just a thought. Best wishes.

Thank you

I guess everyone is different and you are right it is in God's hands. Whatever is meant to be will be.

Definitely just keep the faith. Also my FMIL had miscarriages, and now my FSIL is about to deliver her 2nd baby in 2 years, no miscarriages!

I specifically asked my doctor this - my mother had none (that she's aware of - may have happened before she knew she was pregnant) and I assumed that meant I wouldn't either.

He said it is not at all genetic. It is all based on whether both the egg and sperm were normal and that they produce a viable pregnancy. If your body knows that there is something wrong, it will automatically take care of it (I'm certainly not minimizing it, I just don't know how else to phrase it.)

He told me about 30-40% of KNOWN pregnancies miscarry in the first 12 weeks, and the rate of unknown pregnancies that miscarry is much higher.

I have a friend who is CONVINCED that her family has some gene or enzyme in her body that only accepts female embryos. Everyone in her family (sisters, cousins, aunts, etc) deliver only girls. I'm not sure is this is possible or not, but it is pretty weird.

I thought it was interesting when my doctor told me that when you conceive, you are more likely to carry a boy, but they are also more likely to miscarry (don't remember why) so you have higher odds of delivering a girl than a boy.

HTH!
