If your SO was great and you are totally in love, but he sees no reason to get married, would you stick around or run?

I think most of us are the marrying type when we meet the right person. I don't think I'd wait like your friend is doing, unfortunately I hear from friends about women who were in long term relationships (hoping to get engaged/married), they break up and you hear that a year later the guy got married to someone else.

I'd definitely move on because I AM the marrying type, and to know that someone ISN'T the marrying type means he's not MY type.

I would move on unless it was like an Oprah/Stedman thing, where we both had a ton of money, didn't want kids and he was a husband in every way to me....there would be no need because things could just get messy.

But for the average me, yes i need that paper not only to believe he is committed to me and only me, but also for the basic issues such as benefits, etc.

If my SO was not the marrying type, I'm sure it wouldn't work out for us because I am the marrying type!

If you asked me five years ago, I would have said I would ABSOLUTELY UNDOUBTEDLY move on. Now that I know and love him so much, I am not so sure that would be my answer...He is just too much a part of my life. However, there is no doubt that even if DH was not the'marrying type', I would eventually change his mind.

marriage is very important to me and so I would be grateful for his honesty but I would definitely move on.

I think if one person isn't the marrying type and the other is, the one who doesn't really care for it would make the 'sacrifice' and get married for the sake of the one who wanted to.

Well, is he not the 'marrying type' because he doesn't believe in the institution of marriage or because he doesn't want to commit?

If it was the former, yeah I'd stay, I can rationally see his argument.

If it was the latter, I'd hit the bricks.

P.S. Until I met FH I wasn't really the 'marrying type' because I didn't put much stock in the institution.
