but I don't want to get married at my church. It's very modern and has a really short aisle. It's also hard for everyone to see and take pics unless you're sitting on the end. It's just not 'pretty'. Getting married at a RH or location isn't an option.....maybe I can see if there's a pretty church I can join where ever we decide to live but my Dad seemed upset when I made this comment to him. What do you girls think? Anyone in the same boat? Anyone know of any 'friendly' churches who accept others? I don't want to lie to the church and say I'll be a member when I might not you know. I don't want to hurt my dad though...

If I belonged to a church and my parents belonged there I would get married there even if it wasn't my style. I don't think its about what the church looks like as much as if the church has significance to you or fh

lol.. if i was getting married in a church i would be the SAME way.. i don't think it's bad.. but then again i'm not uber religious either..
i guess i should really add that i grew up in this one church and it's been a big part of my family.. so i would without a doubt get married there.. i just don't see anything wrong for 'shopping around' if you will if you're not really big in a specific church.

I am going through the same thing. I grew up and made all of my sacraments at one church in East Rockaway (Western Nassau). A few years ago my parents moved all the way out east and the churches out here do not have the same look or feel. I know it is more of what it stands for, but we are truly considering having our church in Nassau and then our reception is in Suffolk (about 45 min) apart.
I have been doing research on this so if you want more info FM me.

I got married in a gorgeous, old church. All brick on the inside and a crazy long aisle. It is in Coney Island though. They were so friendly and welcoming. My Mom is a parishioner there, but I think they would have welcomed us anyway.
(not the best pic because it is scanned.)

I know I shouldn't care what it looks like........ahhhh I feel so superficial but I do! I live in Holbrook by the way. I'm not really religious but (now I'm gonna sound even wierder) I went to school upstate and there was this gorgeous church there. I ended up stopping in there on 9/11 because my sister in law worked there and we didn't know if she made it out (she did, thank god) After that I made it a point to go often. I didn't become 'more religious', but I felt good when I went there and it was absolutely beautiful. I just loved sitting in there and looking around. I feel like if I moved to a town and it had a really pretty church I'd go more often........GOD I SOUND TERRIBLE!!!! Anytime I drive upstate though I'm so jealous of their churches. Everywhere you turn there's a gorgeous, old church. I wish I had one!!! (what wierdo wishes for a prettier church......I'm really going to hell)

Yes it was St. Raymond's. We are going to meet with the priest on Saturday!

Coach416, by any chance are you talking about St. Elizabeth?? That's where I'm getting married, and at first I was seriously considering what else I could do b/c I just didn't like the style of the church. Very short aisle, small altar, plain looking, etc. But, it is my parish and I've made other sacraments there, so it didn't seem right to me to discount it just b/c of how it looks. I know exactly where you're coming from though!

Re: I'll probably go to hell for saying this....
yeah i understand what you are saying - my church is very small and plain
BUT my parents have belonged to this church since they came to this country in 1967. We were all baptised there and my cousin was married there. It holds so much family history and I love to think that every Sunday when I go to mass I will be able to remember my wedding day
my family history in my church was very important to me, i hope you can see that too!
