I'm a terrible daughter

My mom has started planning my shower. I know this because we discussed a few possible venues together, talked about a guestlist, and even talked about a theme. I hate surprises when it comes to most things, especially parties. I plan parties for a living so thats my forte and I guess I'm kind of OCD when it comes to details. I like to be in control when it comes to most things like that.

Recently though, I started seeing how excited my mom is about this whole shower thing. So I kinda feel like maybe this would be nice to let her do on her own. This will be 'her' thing. Maybe a few surprises here and there aren't so bad after all. Then today I go over and she decides to show me and tell me about all of her ideas and the things she has purchased. Everything is terrible! Not what I want! Totally not me. Nothing I like. Terrible and awful. I'm so upset. So I try to tell her in a nice way. My mom is apparently very clueless when it comes to parties. She got sooo sad and said she can't do anything right and just wants to make me happy. Then she started to cry. Now I feel like a selfish monster . What a horrible day. Who invented showers anyway?? UGHHH!

I can totally relate! Just last night my mom starts to cry because she feels like she is not involved enough with the wedding process, mind you I have been waiting for MONTHS now for a simple guest list.

I think weddings just bring out the emotions in people.

awwww, give your mommy a big fat hug for sure!!! tell her you appreciate everything but maybe give her a few sources of inspiration or something easy like a color theme, i told my mom i want a pink explosion lol and i have found some stuff for her to use as decor shes doing some stuff on her own, and then venue and date and everything is a surprise

or maybe your mom can team up with your moh or someone and you can feed ideas to her?

dont worry, shes prob just stressed and just wants you to love everything

i'd just tell her any key elements you MUST MUST MUST have for it.

then let her go at it.

unfortunately you can only gives ideas for these things and hope they get used. my mom went nuts with my idea/theme... to the point that my beach theme including a strange 3 or 4 foot mini fishing boat that i saw in my old room by accident one day LOL.
its her party to plan and she is excited about so i just let her go with it.

Oh no, you're not terrible for saying how you feel. That's awful that she got her feelings hurt though.
