I'm an Aunt!!! AND, question about Severe Swelling after c-section???

Thank you for everyone who replied to my questions for my sister in law's scheduled c-section... little Isabella was born wednesday the 25th, she's SO cute and cuddly, I just love her so much!!!

She came home yesterday, lost a pound from when she was born but mom's milk just came in last night, so now she'll get enough to eat.

The problem is my sister in law. She is SO swollen and her legs have puffed up SO much that is is scary!! Her legs from her hips down, her knees, her feet, ankles, arms, fingers, are all puffed out like a balloon.

Is this normal? What can she do to reduce the swelling?

Thank you all!!! :)

After my c/s they checked to make sure I wasnt swollen!! Maybe she should contact her DR!

Does she have her feet elevated? Maybe that would help.

BTW - CONGRATS ON AUNTHOOD!!

Found this on Babycenter - dont know if it applys to c-sections though.

• I gave birth a couple of days ago, but my fingers and ankles are still swollen. Will the swelling go away?
• Is it ever serious?

I gave birth a couple of days ago, but my fingers and ankles are still swollen. Will the swelling go away?
The swelling will gradually disappear within a week as your body eliminates the excess fluid you retained during the last few months of your pregnancy. Your kidneys are responsible for most of the purging, which means you'll be urinating more than usual. Your pores also work overtime to shed the extra water, so you'll sweat more, too.

Is it ever serious?
Postpartum swelling is rarely serious and will go away on its own. However, if the swelling does not resolve within a week or if you have bad headaches or pain in your legs, call your healthcare provider as this may be a sign of high blood pressure. Also, call immediately if the swelling is in only one leg or ankle and is accompanied by severe pain; it could be a sign of deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot).

I was so swollen after my c-sec it was comical. I cannot believe what I looked like. My Mom was a wreck, asking every nurse that came in the room if it was normal. And it was. Same thing happened to several of my friends. It will go down eventually. It took a few weeks before my ankles and fingers looked normal!!

And CONGRATS on being an Aunt!!!

I looked like the elephant man my legs were so swollen but it went away pretty quickly. Walking around helps that a lot.

Congrats!!

Don't worry, it's normal. I was the same way. You couldn't tell I had ankles!. It took about a week I think for it to go down. Tell her to walk around a bit, drink water , no salt & put her feet up when resting.

Iunderstand that kind of swelling is quite normal.

CONGRATS on becoming an Aunt. Nothing like a little kid running into your arms and knowing you don't have to take it home with you! Being an aunt is my favorite role next to being a mommy!

She went to the doctor today and he said the same thing.... she just has to wait!!!

Little Isabella is SO cute, I love her so much, she's just a little tiny doll... and it IS great, I get to go home and sleep, but I still get to play with her!!!

Isn't it amazing how not even one week ago, she wasn't even here and now I can't imagine life without her?

Thank you ALL for your advice!!! :) I don't know what I would do without this board!!
