Im lost with this one. Is it safe to have a baby sleep with crib bumpers on? If not why even have them? I mean it is a bit silly imo to take them off and on for the purpose of the look no?

Yes, they sleep with them on. THey are more decorative than anything. It doesnt hurt when they bonk their heads into the crib. When they are able to pull themselves up they are supposed to be removed so they dont climb up on them and fall out of the crib.

Some SIDs organizations/medical professionals argue that there should not be crib bumpers (or any other soft bedding) as they pose a slight, but unnecessary, suffocation risk to babies.
I'm a nervous mommy. A small head bumb doesn't worry me. I'll have nothing but a fitted sheet in the crib. The baby will wear warm pajamas/be swaddled, so no additional bedding is needed.

We keep them on, I've never found him too close to them.
I worry about so much other stuff I've never added this one to my list!

That is good information. They also sell this baggie/snuggler looking thing that has the arms exposed that acts as a blanket without the risk of having the baby pull the blanket over their heads overnight. I am SIDs phobic since I had a friend who lost her 9 month old to SIDs. It was extremely horrible and I don't even speak about it to this day. I couldn't even imagine waking up to discover your baby is no longer with you..
I also highly recommend the Angel Care flat monitor system. It's a monitor that detects if the baby has stopped breathing - fits underneath the mattress pad. That thing is awesome. A few times I forgot to shut if off before I pulled Amber out of the bassinet and the alarm was instant. It's a little pricey but well worth the peace of mind.

That is exactly what I was going to say. I use them also. Emily usually has her feet on them sleeping. It's cute. I'll take them off when she is sitting up on her own, which I have a feeling will be in the next couple of weeks.
