what about your new job? Will they provide insurance? Most places allow your insurance to kick in after 1-2 months. ANd, in the interim you can purchase insurance through them at a lower rate. Can you ask your new employer?

Are you considering going on the pill now for medical reasons or do you just want to? I know I had to go on because I had cysts....but if its just for birth control reasons...I would say don't do it! It is terrible to be without insurance...but all the girls are right, look into healthy NY or go to Planned Parenthood...or just pay out of pocket for a doctor's visit... a lot of places will help you with payment plans...
You seem not to happy with this prospect so I wouldn't do it! But then again, insurance is important...
If you do do it...remember its a civil ceremony...on your wedding day it will be in the eyes of God and that is such much more monumental than the law...in my opinion
good luck with the decision!
I dont know if you read my other post. But I will be getting my period close to my wedding day...and there is no way in heck I will have my period on my wedding..so you girls said thats its possible to go on BC then stop the placebo and I would miss my period for a month..something like that. So basically, I want to go on BC to prevent my period from coming..not medical reasons. I will check out planned parent hood and will talk to FH and see how he feels. And you said exactly what my mom said...this is just a civil cermony..its getting married in the eyes of God that matters ...which I agree..
I didn't read your other post...sorry! but I understand why you would want to do that....but I still think planned parenthood might be your best bet then....tell them you want a low hormone so its less chance of a side effect...I just went to the gyno yesterday, I had some complications unrelated to the pill and had to go off...and she told me if i wanted to go back on she would put me on low dose....
good luck!

My cousin got married a few months earlier so she could get on her DH's health plan. She did have some medical issues and it really seemed necessary. Things worked out well for them
But there are ways of getting the pill without breaking the bank. Try a Planned Parenthood or health clinic like DOCS. They will charge you based on a sliding scale and give you 2-3 months of sample packets.

Re: Im considering....
this might a little personal, but why do you NEED the pill? cant u just use another form of birth control till the wedding?
ETA: i read a previous post. and now i remember why. just an FYI you need to be on the pill for a few months to regulated with that and then if after the pill regulates u somtimes skipping the placebo pills doesn't always work. it has worked for me, but i also know people who still get their period even when they skip the placebo. so my point is you might go out of ur away to get married early just to get the pill and it make not even work.

Re: Im considering....
i would jus go to a clinic and get the pill from there...i work at a pharmacy and most bc pills dont give a reaction its pretty rare that someone gets sick or gets more than one side effect...besides ur right there 6 months away ......just go to the clinic.....

i've been told that skipping the placebos to skip your period only works on a pill with one hormone level (ie orthtricyclen as opposed to orthtricyclen lo) so if the reason you're going on bc is to skip a period, make sure you tell them that b/c it doesn't work with every form.

Re: Im considering....
I was paying a lot for health insurance before I was married. I wanted to get married privately, before our big wedding, but DH thought it was an unromantic reason, so we didn't. I would not go a minute without health insurance, though. If you get sick suddenly, a few days in a hospital can cost 30K.

You're getting married anyway, why would it hurt to get married a little earlier?

Re: Im considering....(UPDATE)
why dont you go to a planed parenthood to get the pills? if you have a side effect, go back o planned parenthood or if it worse, go to a free clinic to see a regular doctor.

Re: Im considering....(UPDATE)
Before I had health insurance I used to go to Planned Parenthood for all my GYN stuff. Certain centers have a sliding scale so I was only paying about 20 bucks for my appointments and the pills were like 5 dollars a month. It maybe worth looking into...As for skipping your period ask the doctor which pills would work best for this. Good luck

Do you live together?
Reason I ask, my Insurance plan has a thing called Domestic Partner and I was able to add FH onto it.
Look into that
This is true! I am on FH's policy due to the Domestic Partner act. I think you have to live together over 6 months and be financially interdependent.

That's so good that he is so supportive. I don't think you have a thing to worry about.

Re: Im considering....(UPDATE)
My FH just talked to me about this the other day. I spend so much in health insurance and it would definitely help us out since his company pays for his health insurance. It is a great idea, but I told him I would think about it.

I think you can get pills from Planned Parenthood and if there are any kind of problems they should have a DR there! I used to go there before I had insurance and it was only 5 dollars a month for my pills and appts were only $10. If you are unsure about getting married before the wedding then don't do it, you might regret not waiting until that moment!!
