marrying my FH to get health insurance ...I really didnt want to do this..but I may just have to. I want to start BC..but I want to see a Dr. first...Ive been uninsured for over a year now..and its not cool. Who else here is married for insurance purposes?? I mean..I still wont be living with him...but I just didnt want to do this...
UPDATE: Just thought it was cute...I just finished talking to FH on the phone, spent about 15mins explaining the whole getting married for insurance situation...went through everything with him...and his response was 'Ok, when do you want to get married?'...I just thought it was cute...he made me feel soo much better by telling me that..I hope this made any sense lol

Re: Im considering....
Do you live together?
Reason I ask, my Insurance plan has a thing called Domestic Partner and I was able to add FH onto it.
Look into that

You were going to marry him anyway, regardless of the health insurance right?
I have a friend who did this.

I can see how it's weird.
Noone can tell you what to do, but don't do it just for the health insurance...
Can you go to a clinic?

honestly mil, ALOT of girls do this.. BUT because of your DONT DO IT! If you really dont want to, plllease hold off.. its only a few more months! You will regret it!!!! But if youre certain about it, go for it! It is a very common thing actually!

Re: Im considering....
Have you tried planned parenthood? what about that state health insurance 'family health plus'? just check around, if you're in school they should offer some kind of health insurance to students. The cheapest method would be to get on your fh's insurance but I'm just giving you other options.

Re: Im considering....
If you are going to do it, don't make the whole health insurance thing the reason why you do it...ultimately, you will be sharing your life with this person and you should be with this person because you want to be not because they can get you insurance.

Re: Im considering....
I agree, don't do it because of the pill. If you have to pay for it for a couple of months, I would just do that. You seem sad about it and you don't want to look back and regret anything.

Well its not the paying part. I dont mind paying for the pills every month...is just..what if I have a reaction to them? Thats what worries me. But I do understand all of ur comments, and thanks for the suggestions. I will talk to FH about it later on...and get his opnion on it. I do understand that it is a common for people to do this. Thanks again girls!

Re: Im considering....
I was considering it also..I am in the same boat, and still have a way to go before i can get on his insurance. I had very mixed feelings....I was concerned that the church might have an issue with it...Even though we would be married to each other.I am not sure how that works

Re: Im considering....
planned parenthood would be good for bc and they'll be available to see if you have any side effects too. also, try to look into the 'healthy ny' plan (i think that's the name). they seem to be pretty affordable.

I can see why it would seem odd to you...but at the same time you will be married regardless. If it helps you in the long run I see nothing wrong with it. I would try planned parenthood too if you really are leaning towards not doing it

Re: Im considering....
I actually considered that, but felt like I was betraying my family, friends and guests. Needless to say, I didn't do it, and I'm happy I didn't. Unless you have some health issues, then do what you deem fit. Like I said, I didn't want to decieve my family friends and guests. Whether they knew what I did or not. To me....personally. getting married is a one shot deal. You do it once!!!! Regardless of what anyone says.

I know there are side effects to BC but they are not severe, you can get BC at any planned parenthood. You're only 6 months away!!! XOXOXO Kitty

Re: Im considering....
how about getting low cost health insurance? You may qualify for Healthy NY...since FH got laid off (i used to be under his as a Domestic Partner) i had to get insurance...premiums are only arond $200 a month..which is alot cheaper than most plans...here's a link..
Are you considering going on the pill now for medical reasons or do you just want to? I know I had to go on because I had cysts....but if its just for birth control reasons...I would say don't do it! It is terrible to be without insurance...but all the girls are right, look into healthy NY or go to Planned Parenthood...or just pay out of pocket for a doctor's visit... a lot of places will help you with payment plans...
You seem not to happy with this prospect so I wouldn't do it! But then again, insurance is important...
If you do do it...remember its a civil ceremony...on your wedding day it will be in the eyes of God and that is such much more monumental than the law...in my opinion
good luck with the decision!

I dont know if you read my other post. But I will be getting my period close to my wedding day...and there is no way in heck I will have my period on my wedding..so you girls said thats its possible to go on BC then stop the placebo and I would miss my period for a month..something like that. So basically, I want to go on BC to prevent my period from coming..not medical reasons. I will check out planned parent hood and will talk to FH and see how he feels. And you said exactly what my mom said...this is just a civil cermony..its getting married in the eyes of God that matters ...which I agree..
