i'm debating the receiving line...

I think a couple of things come into play:

is your ceremony at the same place as the reception?

How many people at the wedding?

and will you be at your cocktail hour?

Personally, I don't like it and won't be doing it, but I do see why some people would want to...I think it is a waste of time for me given the fact that i am having both ceremony and reception at the same place, and i am attending the cocktail hour. With only 140 guests, I think I will get a chance to kiss them all!

I'm getting married at the church and there will be some people there that won't be at the reception.

Where is that 7 truths article. I'm going to do the receiving line and I want to attend my CH hour. My reception and ceremony is at different venues.

Where is this article that you speak of?? Curious to read..

Tpyically at Jewish weddings there is no receiving line.. Therefore at any wedding, I don't think you need it- esp if you don't want to do it! I mean- there are some things you NEED to do- actually scratch that- you do anything you damn well please!

like the LIW crew? that's exactly why i'm debating it!!!

The ceremony begins at 3:30 and should end at about 4:30, i figure with a receiving line and throwing petals some pics, it'll take another hour! so we'd leave at 5:30, then i'm really hoping for no traffic so we can get to the park (in between) to take some pics and still be at the cocktail hour at 7pm to make rounds

i feel like cutting out the line would ensure enjoying the entire ch and thus not having to do that during the reception

just thinking...

you totally have to do it if you don't it shows that you don't care.

We did it and it wasn't so bad. Not a lot of people come to the church and I think it's a nice way to make those who do feel special. We got a few cute pictures from it too.

How far is your reception hall from the park? And how far is the park from the church?

Re: i'm debating the receiving line...

church is in queens about 30 min no traffic from the park...the park is like 5 min from the hall

I have been to church weddings where there were no receiving lines and most guests were thrilled by that!

I'm doing it......I already know that some friends of my mom's who will not be invited to the wedding, but will come to the ceremony. I think its a nice gesture if you have the time!

I say skip it. You will see everyone at the CH. Also you will have more time for pictures.

I was reading this earlier and decided we should skip it altogether, but then I realized that some of my kids may come and I don't want to not talk to them, so now I am torn too.

I think we're going to have one, because after our ceremony, they have to change the room over for the cocktail hour anyway, so it will help everybody pass the time.

I agree. But I'm worried about the timing. Did you ask your photographer how much time he reccommends for pictures when you do it at multiple locations? I figure you would want to take pictures at the park and at your hall. Actually, I change my mind. It seems as if you have time. If you are running late then you can just miss some of the CH.

I want to do the line because I want everyone to look at us again when we walk out together and everyone is outside. Plus, I think it will be nice to take some time to speak to everyone with my parents by my side because Lord knows that I don't know some of the people on their list!
