I'm Depressed....Will Someone PLEASE HELP? (THE HTH)

Hi everyone...1st of all, I love each and everyone of you. I've been just a 'reader' for quite some time now. You all have provided me with a lot of major support, laughter, and even a few tears! (thanks to the pictures)

I am planning my NY wedding from Chicago . . .which is more difficult than I could ever attempt to explain. We're getting married in Sept 2003. We were very close to booking the Huntington Townhouse UNTIL, I ran into this board. I don't think that I have read ONE SINGLE positive comment about this facility. As you probably know, their prices are rather on the reasonable side- - -which made our LARGE wedding dreams come true almost instantly. We visited the hall while we were in town over the holidays. I am unable to physically visit other halls because we are in Chicago.

Should I just book there and PRAY that everything turns out ok? Is there ANYONE here who has had a positive experience? Does anyone have any alternate suggestions that are relatively similiar price-wise? Please help me so that this migraine can go away and that I can stop crying.

I personally did not have a good experience at the Huntington Townhouse, but it was not their fault. There was a wedding taking place downstairs while we were at a BatMitzvah, wher ethe police were called in......I'm sorry.

May I ask what price range you are looking at? From my experience there, food wise, I think you can get somewhere....post some questions.

As you will see - you can plan this from afar, many have done this. We are all here to help.

Please don't cry at this point - I know we can help, and we are all ready to share experiences. In fact, you should stop crying NOW, and Thank your lucky stars you found this site......

I'm sorry that you are feeling this way, If you have heard bad reviews I would defintely not book , I would look for more places. You put a lot of effort into your wedding you don't want it to be ruined by your catering hall. This is only my opinon. I'm getting married at the brentwood country club, it's extremly reasonable and it's a package deal(photogher, flowers, dj, cake, etc..)It costs $8995 for a hundred people, anything over is $65 per person depending on the day of your event, I do know of other halls for $60 -$70 per person, if you need help let me know.

Hi and welcome, I unfortunately don't know anything personally about this hall but besides the price did you do any research on it that made you decide in the first place that you wanted to book here? I'm sure the girls on this board will have more info for you on this hall and others that might be in your price range.

Hi & welcome. I'm not sure what the price is there, but do keep in mind that you USUALLY get what you pay for & not a penny more.
I know that the Brentwood Country Club is really pretty & is very affordable(I don't know exact prices)they have packages that include alot. Two of my co-workers just went there & said they were so impressed with how nice it was.
Hopefully you will get a lot of responses on here & you'll be able to visit websites & make calls to find another location.

Maybe you can describe what you are looking for and the price range and you can get some valuable info from this site.

I have never heard of the hall.

If you are on a tight budget may I suggest Manor East. NYLISA and I are booked there for the same day. The place is family owned and operated. It doesnt have huge gardens and it doesnt have lakes or views, but what it does have is really good service, great food and a staff that treats you like family.

Other than the cops disrupting the party, how was everything else? The food? The ambience? The service? The facility? They quoted me a price of $49.95 pp. I thought that was GREAT! But if the place is horrible, it wouldn't even be worth 50 cents! We are getting married on a Friday evening. We didn't want to go any higher than $65-70.

I've read a lot of good comments about the Chateau Briand, but the banquet mgr refused to give me an estimate over the phone.

We are getting married at SMCC, its about $70 pp on a Sat night.

We're having our reception at Manor East. We're paying 68 dollars a person and we're getting everything from soup to nuts. So much food, and an ice sculpture and mini vianesee table is included in the price. The hall doesnt have lavish gardens, but there is a pretty outside for pictures (do a search for Novemberbride. she has some manor east photo's posted)

the wedding cake is supplied and it comes with a waterfall.

They really make all your dreams come true and treat you like family.

Here's what I would suggest.
Start a new topic with the detials - include the price, night, area (Huntington) and number of people....please don't stress...we will help, but please be prepared to fly to NY and it might be a good idea to schedule a trip, bc I know (from business travel ) that the fares can vary from $200 - $900

How many people are you going to have I just booked my party ay Larkfield Manor today and the price was so incredable I could cry, I was so blown away. We have a food tasting on Sunday and I cant wait. Reallu let me know and ill give you some more info. aslo i have been checking prices and places and have been in catering for a few years so I have been around.

Please don't fret. It is going to be fine! See you are already getting good advice. I'm planning for April from DC in less than 6 months. You CAN do this!

Unfortunately i don't know of any halls similar to the HTH, but i have a suggestion for keeping your price down. if you can have the reception at a different time than Saturday night (i.e. on a friday or sunday) then you can probably save money whereever you do it. Good luck!

Edited to say duh! i just re-read that you are getting married on friday. you are going tobe fine. do what you can in Chicago and keep researching places for the reception, but i agree that you should try to go up to just do a marathon weekend of site visiting and planning. but you can get a lot of other stuff done from Chicago (like dresses and invitations). it is going to be fine!

PS - Dubliner, what is this about prizes for out of town brides at the GTG????? how do i register?!!!!!

When you say no higher than $70 you mean including all the taxes & stuff right? I think you can find something that you can feel more confident about! There are several smaller places on LI that can fit into your price range if you're a little flexible with your day & time of year.
